Default can't conceive because i never get my period!

from when i first began menstruation at the age of 13, my cycle was never regular unless i was on the pill. i started taking ortho tri-cyclen when i was 16 in 2003 to prevent pregnancy. okay. i went off the birth control pill in september of 2006 because i wanted to get pregnant. i didn't get my period for 6 months after that, and finally went to the doctor. he prescribed me provera in order to get my period and maybe get my cycle back. i also got bloodwork done and my thyroid came back normal along with everything else.

i started taking the provera at the end of march and got my period april 12th. then i got my period again may 14th, june 16th, and july 11th.

july 11th is the last time i saw my period.

i don't know what to do! i'm ttc so i don't want to go back on the pill, but if everything is coming back normal then i don't know what is going on. should i maybe try provera again to get myself started again?

any help? also, i know i am not pregnant because i was in a car accident last week and they did a blood test prior to doing xrays.

part of me just wants to call up the doctor but these days you don't meet many 20 year olds who are married and ready to have kids. i think they'd look at me like i'm insane and tell me to ask my parents first.

this is so frustrating.

oh and also... my husband has a number of medical problems. we were wondering if the meds that he's on (mostly pain killers and anti-nausea meds) could make his sperm count low?

any help would really be great. i'm about to give up.

All i can tell you is talk to your dr. Before my dh and I got married I went to my dr to ask why I never had a regular cycle. He did all the blood work and EVERYTHING came back normal. I just wasn't oing. He then sent me to a specialist who put me on metphormin and a low dose of clomid. That didn't help so I went on to follistim injectables. Which gave me my dd. I know that you are young, but if you and your dh want kids I say talk to your dr. It doesn't matter what he thinks, it only matter what you and your dh thinks. Also healthwise, I don't think it is a good idea to go more then 90 days without having a period. But that is just my opinion.

Look how many younger people then you are having kids.

I wish you luck and lots of babydust.

Don't give up.
I also have irregular cycles that range from35 days to 60+ days and I have two children.
First go to your doctor and get on Provera again to start a cycle. You should not go longer then 3 months without a period. It is not good for you.
Then i'd just ask if you could be tested further. MAYBE you have PCOS which a lot of women with this have irregular periods. But I must warn you some of us. (like myself) have irregular periods, but doctors can not find a root cause as to why.
But you can help up your chances of becoming pg, by watching for your fertility signs such as cm (cervial mucas) and your cp(cervical position) These will tell you when you are about to O, so you can up your chances of getting pg.
A great book that explains all these plus how to chart your temps is Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It is a life savior at times when you have problems.
good Luck, and if you have any questions, many of us on this board is going threw what you are going threw. So we hopefully can help.
But go to your doctor and see what they might be able to do for you.

I understand what you mean, but Vicki is right, it doesnt matter what other ppl think of your age and how kids will fit into all that. It should only matter to you and your DH .

I've read bits and peices of Taking Charge of your Fertility, its a great book and a good resources. If you havent checked out Fertilityfriend you may want to take a look at it, start tracking your temps, it will give you a good idea if you are ovulating or when ovulation is coming. So on so forth.

Good luck in your TTC.

I second what everyone else is saying. I also have irregular O . . . and there are many things a doctor can due to help you O. If your regular gyn doesn't want to do that, then find a reproductive endocrinologist (usually you will find them at a fertility clinic), and go see them. Sometimes, numbers that a gyn will look at and say "normal" will look different when taken at specific times in your cy, or when there is also an u/s for a doctor to look at. And sometimes, gyns will look at only certain things (like thyroid, and some basic LH/FSH tests), but there are other things they can look for, too, that aren't part of the "standard" protocol.

I wasn't O'ing . . . I did one month on low dose Clomid, and that worked well for me (in terms of O'ing). So, there are many things you can do. While they tell you to wait 1 year when you are young if everything is working right to go get help, if everything isn't working right (and not getting periods is an example of that), you should go seek assistance.

THere are many options to help you O - without needing to go back on bcps. GL to you!
