age cutoff for Kindergarten
I noticed on B's kindergarten registration papers that the cutoff is the child must be 5 by October 1st. I, personally thought that was late. Mine is in July and I should have been held back.
B's best friend from daycare/preschool will turn 5 mid September. The preschool teacher asked me this morning if I was for sure sending B to kindergarten in the fall. I said of course. Then she informed me that B's friend's mom was looking for other kids from preschool that would also being be going to our schools kindergarten program this year, that way she could reassure her son that he would have friends there already. I was shocked to find out his mom planned on sending him. (He is a nice kid, seems smart, but immature & in his own world most of the time.)
Anyways...this preschool teacher was talking about this situation to another mom, who is a kindergarten teacher. The kindergarten teacher said they are recommending parents to hold children with May, even late April birthdays back till the following year. She said this was because they are learning so much more in kindergarten then in the past. (Which I agree with) But I can see summer birthdays being held back, but spring birthdays....I am not sure on.
What is your school's recommendation? How do you feel?
