Default Rough Day, Could Use Some of Your Prayer Power

Hi All,

Well, I was really expecting to be the one doing the praying for everyone else for a good while and not needing prayers so much on this end since everything was going quite well for my little family lately.

Today threw us a curve ball however. Hopefully it is a false alarm. But my doctor called with results from my 2nd Trimester blood tests to say I tested positive for Downs Syndrom. I received the call at work. He was abrupt, saying we knew it was a possibility due to my age and it came back positive so there you have it and take care. I was shocked; especially since the 1st trimester results were so good indicating the risk was very low.

I immediately went into plan B (no thanks to councelling or encouragement from my Dr) and called the lab that does U/S and Amnio tests. They made an appt for me this afternoon.

I wasn't really planning on getting an amnio. We'll love this baby no matter what but given the recent test results, we need to know what we're dealing with and prepare one way or another.

DH and I left work to have both U/S and Amnio done right away. That Dr had a much better bedside manner and helped me to calm down and stop crying. He talked in terms of statistical results, high risk/low risk and said he trusts the 1st trimester tests more than the 2nd trimester tests. He also did not find any Downs Syndrom markers during the ultrasound. The amnio didn't hurt as much as I thought it would and we'll get the full results back in a few days (they are going to expedite it for us).

So now I'm just exhausted. We've done everything we can do for now and are just hoping and praying that our baby is healthy. So, that's why we could use your prayers too.

BTW, we're having a boy.

Many Thanks,
Jo

JO~ I am so sorry that this is happening to you and your dh I have read so many things about the false positives that I am reassured. But I can see where you would be totally upset. I will say a bunch of extra prayers for you and the baby. Please let us know what happens. And whatever the outcome we are here for you to help you through whatever comes your way. But I have a feeling that things will be just fine.

Heavenly Father,

We come to you in prayer for Jo & her unborn child. Lord the news Jo has received is dishearting but we know Heavenly Father that our test are nothing in comparison to your will into our lives. We believe Heavenly Father that all children serve a purpose in this world. We pray God that you give Jo and her family the guidance and peace they need during this time. We ask Dear Lord that this child is born healthy & happy. May you see them through each day with a renewed hope. We thank you for this blessing! In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

Thanks Ladies, I really appreciate your prayers.

We might get results as early as today.

Meanwhile, I've been keeping busy and trying to face all possibilities head on. I found a local support network for families of children with Downs Syndrome that arranges playdates, has picnics, etc.. There are sign language classes you can take and teach to your child. There's even some children's books about a little girl and her baby brother who has Downs Syndrome that I could read to dd if and when the time comes.

I'm still terrified. Have plenty of bouts of tears. But I'm holding tight to God and Love. I don't feel as thought I'm about to step off of a giant cliff anymore, rather I'm beginning to see a safety net there.

Will keep you posted as soon as I hear any news.
Many thanks and many hugs to all of you
Jo
