Icon9 Ist miscarriage (missed)??????

This past Friday I went for my 1st pelvic exam. The Dr examined me and said I wasn't as big I should be for 10wks. He order an ultrasound and there was no heartbeat and the baby measured only 6 1/2 wks. Now I have a D&C next week. I had all the symptoms of pregnancy at first but over the last couple of weeks I have noticed that they were starting to fade. I did not have any spotting or cramping as far as I new everything was going fine. This was my first attempt at having a baby. I do not know what to expect from this point on? Is a D&C painful, alot of cramping and bleeding afterwards??

You may want to ask your doctor about non-surgical ways to complete the miscarriage, it will be much gentler on your body and depending on your personal attitudes towards miscarriage, could be gentler on you as well. There are also drugs that can be taken to induce and have a success rate somewhere in the 90% range that don't carry as many risks as a D&C.

I went through a very similar thing as you, went to the ER for a cyst at 12 weeks and they found that the baby had stopped growing at 9 weeks. The ER doctors and my OB clinic pushed me very hard towards an immediate D&C because they automatically assumed I couldn't handle the emotions of waiting for nature to run it's course. I watchfully waited for 8 weeks, observing my body constantly for any sign of infection or complication. I was on the extreme long end of watchful waiting, but had no complications and my fertility returned with normal cycles immediately after the miscarriage completed.

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having to go through losing your first, it's a horrible life event that no woman should have to experience.

I am sorry for your loss i say you could wait to see if bleeding starts if it doesn't then I would suggest a d&c if bleeding hasn't started within 2 wks but if bleeding does start watch to see if your bleeding too much at my first m/c but 2nd loss I started to hemeroage that i needed a emergency d&c -d&c is pretty simple just general anthesia doesn't hurt & no pain medicine was neccessary

I opted for the D&C because I was not emotionally ok with the idea of waiting for my baby to expel on it's own. I recovered physically very quickly and emotionally I think that it was hard, but the waiting would be worse.

I'm so sorry.

I just went through a D&C on Saturday. I was put to sleep and woke up to only slight cramping and a little bit of spotting. I cramped a little that entire day but nothing that motrin didn't handle. I was only 7 weeks along, so I'm not sure if being further along makes the physical recovery worse.
