Circumcision
I personally did not want to circumcise, but, after doing the research together, my dh has chosen to circumcise. We had previously made the decision that, as long as we DID the research, I would support dh's choice when it came to his son - because dh had to be confident in our decision as our son would one day be able to sense it if dh was not confident in our choice - regardless of what that choice was.
SOOOO... what is your decision?

Re: Circumcision
Our son is intact and we are in agreement. DH wasnt at first but that was one of the "over my dead body" topics for me so I made him look heavily into the research. He joined my team after that. LOL

Re: Circumcision
I did not want to at first but we did the research and decided it was the best decision for our son.

Re: Circumcision
I had always thought that if I had a boy, we'd go with how DH is. Well it turns out my DH is uncircumsized and he's very much an advocate to keep any DS we have like that.
We've talked about it quite a bit, even before we found out we are pg. He confided to me that he did have some foreskin issues at about age 10, and it was a bit painful and a little stressful for a little guy his age. But he had good care from his parents and the Dr. and he regained his confidence shortly after the problem was resolved.
I'm happy that I'll have his experience to work woth if and when we have a boy!

Re: Circumcision
We both agreed on circumcising our DS, not doing it never crossed either of our minds, it wasnt even an issue.

Re: Circumcision
We didn't and we were in agreement.
That's a choice DS can make when he's older if he wants to have the skin cut off. We didn't feel that it was our place to make that decision for our son.

Re: Circumcision
We did and were in agreement. We researched it, researched the doctor and procedure that would be done and DH was with our son in the room, holding his little hand, when it was done.
Our second son was done in a Jewish synagogue even though we aren't Jewish. Having homebirths makes it VERY hard to find a doctor willing to do it in this area. This moyel is also a pediatrician and has done thousands of circs (both religious and non-religious) and we felt very confident in him and the procedure. If this baby is a boy, he will be done by this same person.

Re: Circumcision
I refuse to circumcise, but there isn't an option for me...I haven't really gotten to educate my DH on the issue yet I previously told him months and months ago if we ever have a boy I will NOT circumcise, and he said okay...but when he finds out (tomorrow!) that we ARE having a boy, we'll see what he has to say!

Re: Circumcision
I voted wrong on accident. My 1st son is circumcized - let me blame it on the fact that I was very young and didn't realize I actually had a choice in this matter - but, if we have another male child he will remain intact. My husband agrees with this decision.

Re: Circumcision
We did not and are in agreement. It's his body, and I have NO RIGHT to take his foreskin away from him without his consent!!

Re: Circumcision
Okay maybe I am dumb here - I live in the UK and the only reason we would circumcise her is if there is an infection or tighteness which is often when the children are toddlers but generally infections and tightness is a rareity and 'they' say better treating the single infection than operating on all of the boys - sometimes on religious grounds but I believe that many are going the other way too ....but to circumcise because is the done thing and for no other reason never happens.
Both my boys are intact and neither have had any problems medically or for hygene reasons.
Why do people in the USA circumcise?

Re: Circumcision
um...from what I can tell? mostly for cosmetic reasons...
and I say that from experience...I have 2 boys that are unfortunately circ'ed and one who is not....
I had way more cleaning issues with my circ'd boys, one of which got an infection after birth
After I had my older boys, I had my 2nd dd who was in the NICU and I saw a baby under go the procedure...what I saw made me bawl my eyes out for that precious baby.
After reading that it actually removes nerve endings, yeah, between that and watching it done on a live aby, I vowed never agian with any of our boys.
My dh was not on board at first, but I suggested to him that the only way I would consider his point of view ( which was he wanted his BOYS to lok like HIM...thats all!!) was for him to WATCH a circ video of a baby having it done online.
Needless to say...he declined Especially after I told him about the removal of the nerve endings, and how the foreskin actually works with a woman's body and vaginal secretions later in life ( during intercourse) I know, crazy thought to think about my future baby boys having s*x but...we are not raising babies here... We are raising future adults!!!

Re: Circumcision
Christine - well done for not feeling pressured into conforming 'just because' your other boys are circ.
I guess natural is normal, same as anything on the body that is natural - anything that has been surgically enhanced or altered should not be defined as normal ....... now not to debate here as that doesn't always mean its wrong. Just I dont see all the millions of people in the uk as not being normal
It is clearly a thing that your nation do more routinely than they do here in the UK, the people do it just because someone told them it was the thing to do - medically I dont see how it could be better apart from the smallest percentage of children who have tight skin. And the only circ penis I ever saw was horribly scarred, being crude but the bit where the skin should be looked like it had been burnt urgh

Re: Circumcision
As in the UK it is not done routinely here in Eastern Canada only if problem arises which is very rare. I have yet to see a circ penis.

Re: Circumcision
Amanda, yeah actually I forgot to add that I know A LOT of little boys who were circ'ed wrong, or they took too much off and problems resulted because of it.
