How do they plan to induce? There are certain drugs that increase the rate of uterine rupture so it would be good if they are avoiding them (highest rate of complications come from prostaglandin ripeners with Cytotec being really bad and Cervidil and Prepidil being of concern as well).

Safer choices are foley catheter if your cervix is unfavorable and AROM if your cervix is favorable (+3cm, ripe). AROM is best reserved for moms with babies that are low and well positioned and mom has tested negative for GBS.

Low dose pitocin can be used but it has the uterine rupture risk. Best to keep it to a minimum and only use with monitoring. (Monitoring can be done with telemetry or with long cables so you can retain mobility as laying in bed is just a bad idea for most births.)

I have heard of successful VBAC inductions. For safety reasons I would probably opt for membrane stripping and non-drug induction options if I absolutely had to induce. I don't think I would consent to an induction unless I was hovering at 42 weeks or there was a medical need to induce. If all was well I would try and buy more time with NSTs and BPPs if they wanted to induce before 42 weeks.

GL!
Beth

Why do they want to induce you? Do you think you need to be induced? You can say no if you don't think it's necessary.

Inductions decrease the chance of having a VBAC & increase the chance of rupture, but you can definitely have a successful VBAC even if you're induced.

Personally, though, I would refuse an induction for any reason unrelated to my or the baby's immediate health, which since they don't want to do it until Monday, sounds like that is definitely not the case. I really hope you reply and let us know what reason they've given for the induction, it'd be easier to give you more ideas.

Well, it's Monday, so I don't know if you're being induced atm or not. If you are, I hope everything goes well!!! If not, have they made any suggestions for lowering your blood pressure/reducing the changes of toxemia?
