icon16 Is there hope? Male Factor Infertility

Hello Ladies,

I am looking for hope. Does anyone have a success story they would like to share with me or any words of advice. We have Male Factor Infertility & varicoceles in the right testicle (we just found out about the varicoceles last night).

The Dr. isn't sure if IUI is the right procedure for us. Thinks the counts might just be too low. He thinks we should go right to IVF (seriously can't affor it).

Do you think there is any hope for us with IUI???

Any comments would be greatly appreciated & welcomed!

Concentration was 13 mil, 13% of those were motile (or 7% can't remember off the top of my head) and morphology was just plain bad. There wasn't a normal shaped one in the bunch.

ME! I am a success story! My DH had varicocele surgery and two months later we got pregnant with our DD on our own. We got pregnant again our first month of not not trying after she was born (does that make sense?).

When we were diagnosed we had 3 failed IUI's and I believed I was just a few months away from IVF which would have been a big financial hit for us. We tried the surgery and I am so glad we did.

I can't remember DH's exact numbers (going through infertility I swore I'd never forget) but he was like 6 million count and 2% mobility and morphology. He had really bad numbers. I believe morphology was the main issue according to the urologist. My main piece of advice to you is find an urologist that you trust and go for the surgery. DH was out of work for a week and was uncomfortable the first 24-48 hours, but after that he was all about x-box and watching movies. It ended up like a mini vacation.

If you have any further questions or you need any information, please PM me. I am happy to answer any questions you may have.

Good luck! :big hug

Me too!! I have a success story but unfortunately mine involved several IVF attempts. Dh also had varicocele veins and had the surgery. Before the surgery he had 0 motility, poor morphology and a weak count. After the surgery, the motility improved but nothing else.

Not to put a sour taste but we did 5 IUIs before we moved to IVF. The first 4 were without clomid. After the 4th failed attempt, the urologist told us we would never get pregnant with an IUI if we didn't use Clomid. Uh, thanks for telling us NOW! Anyway, we left him and went to an RE. He insisted we try one more time with Clomid. I produced 3 eggs, none of which fertilized.

We then moved on to IVF. The first fresh and 2 subsequent FETs didn't work, but the next fresh produced my beautiful baby boy, Mason.

For us, the surgery alone did not help us. But going through it, we were told stories of people who were pg a few months after the procedure. I hope your journey is short lived. Good luck!

I'm not sure how much of a success story we are BUT, my hubby had varicoceles(no surgery either) low count, bad mobiltiy the works...... We did 4 IUI's with clomid and conceived our first daughter......then we did 4 more IUI's and got preggo but miscarried.....then the first IUI after that conceived our second daughter......she is just 7 months old. We figured with our history that we wouldn't conceive on our own so didn't use any birth control and now we are 11 weeks pregnant with a totally natural conception..........boy was that a surprise!

I am very much a success story! My DH and I spent almost a year and a half trying without success. I knew that the problem wasn't with me because I always had such perfect cycles. You know, every 28 days without fail. We temped and charted for most of those cycles and knew that everything was fine there. So we went to have a SA done. When the results came back we were shocked. A normal male should have 10 - 90 million, right? Well, my DH only had 10! Not 10 million. Ten like the fingers on your hands. Basically, nothing. They did all the tests for his hormone levels and other than testosterone being low, the levels were fine. He was also told that one of the testicles had a varicocele. The doctor said that without some kind of intervention (IUI or IVF) we would NEVER conceive.

That was in late April/early May 2002. DH took it pretty hard. He spent a couple day being angry esp since there was no way financially we could afford IUI or IVF. We agreed that we would continue with the temping and charting. With MUCH prayer we continued. In June 2002 (on Father's Day) we found out we were pregnant! WITHOUT any medical intervention. We had done it on our own. Our beautiful miracle daughter arrived Feb 2003 after a wonderful pregnancy and delivery.

Well, we knew that we wanted another child so that Elisabeth would have a sibling to grow up with and since it took 2 years to conceive her we started trying immediately after the doctor said we could. (Six weeks after her birth ) A year passed without success, yet we still temped, charted and prayed. We both felt that if it never happened again we were blessed with Elisabeth (who turned 2 on Feb 22). However, this January 20th, we found out that we are expecting again. Another miracle to prove the doctors wrong!!! DH believes that this one will be a son. I honestly don't care... just a healthy baby.

I hope and pray that you get your miracle soon!!!

My DH had a very low sperm count, I don't even think he had 10 mil but the ones he did have the motility was really really low. We had one round of IUI and I am now 35 weeks pg and due on April 7.

My husband has low count, motility & abnormals. Our doctor said that to do IUI we needed to have at least 1 million good ones. . . .that wasn't us. So, we moved straight to IVF. I m/c with my fresh cycle & am 10 weeks pregnant with our frozen cycle.

GOOD LUCK! This is a tough road with lots of ups and downs.
