Default The start of my questions

My first OB appt is tomorrow, I graduated from the RE after my last u/s at 6wks.
So...how many u/s should I expect? With my last baby I had 9 but she was high risk and my son I had 5.
Will I have to see a Peri?
Have you found your OB anxious to plan a c/s? I am highly against one unless totally neccessary for the babies.
What additional testing do they want you to do?
Do you have appts more often even in the beginning?
I labor super fast, will they want me to do an induction so they can control the situation?
Those that know the sex of thier babies...did you find out through your basic u/s or another test like the cvs?

Ok thats it for now

"So...how many u/s should I expect? With my last baby I had 9 but she was high risk and my son I had 5."
I've had at least 16 by now due to TTTS. Obviously, it will all depend on how the pregnancy goes.

"Will I have to see a Peri?" Do you know if you're having mono/mono, mon/di or di/di twins?

"Have you found your OB anxious to plan a c/s? I am highly against one unless totally neccessary for the babies." I agree with this too. My docs weren't anxious to relegate us to the c/s route, but they recommend it because of our TTTS.

"What additional testing do they want you to do?" They offer all the standards, but they don't force the tests at all.

"Do you have appts more often even in the beginning?" I didn't , but with mono/dis, I wish I had.

"I labor super fast, will they want me to do an induction so they can control the situation?" Me too. That's a good question. . . I haven't asked it since I'll be getting my first c/s. With my singletons, they wanted to induce due to precipitous labor, but I declined. It's dangerous for my TTTS babies this time.

"Those that know the sex of thier babies...did you find out through your basic u/s or another test like the cvs?" Basic u/s at 19 weeks

So...how many u/s should I expect? I had an u/s every month for the first 4-5 mons and then it was every 2 weeks after that until about 30-32 weeks ( I think, would havta look and see ) and in the end I was getting 1-2 per week, with the NST, they had a hard time telling the difference between their hb's. plus I was getting them done at my OB's office. I had ALOT!! But I was also considered higher risk because I'm diabetic.

Will I have to see a Peri? I only saw a peri ONE time during my whole twin pregnancy and that was just to do a thorough u/s to see blood flow and all that good stuff. And the only reason I had to see a peri for that was because my OB didn't have that on their u/s machines in his office, other then that, I saw my OB the whole time.

Have you found your OB anxious to plan a c/s? I knew from the beginning that I was having a c/s cause I've had too many c/s in the past so I wasn't given a choice.

What additional testing do they want you to do? I didn't have too many done because so many of them are false/positives due to carrying twins anyway. But you WILL get your fair share of tests done.

Do you have appts more often even in the beginning? I went once a month for the first 20-24 weeks and then every 2 weeks after that until about 32 weeks and then every week after that. LOTS of NST's Gosh! Those things got on my nerves after awhile cause I was doing them twice a week for like the last 6-8 weeks.

I labor super fast, will they want me to do an induction so they can control the situation? Not sure on this one cause I had a scheduled c/s

Those that know the sex of thier babies...did you find out through your basic u/s or another test like the cvs? I found out through basic u/s at about 15 weeks and EVERY u/s I had after that, I'd make em check again...lol If you wanna know the sexes, there is a GREAT chance that you WILL know for SURE before they are born cause you will get alot of u/s

So...how many u/s should I expect? With my last baby I had 9 but she was high risk and my son I had 5.

This depends on your dr really.. I had u/s every 4 weeks until 24 weeks.. then I was sent to a Peri and now I get them every week and the Peri has been horrible about sending info to my MW and OB so I might be getting more through them soon if that doesn't change. I know many twins mommies don't even get them every 4 weeks.. and many get them every 2 weeks from the beginning.

Will I have to see a Peri? I didn't until one baby started slipping away size wise. Had both girls stayed right on.. I wouldn't have ever seen one. So IMO.. only if something shows a need.. but I know many see a Peri from the beginning if their twins are mo/di

Have you found your OB anxious to plan a c/s? not at all.. my MW and OB are pretty far right winged on that one.. they avoid c section if at all possible.. as long as baby A is head down.. we are a go for vaginal delivery.

What additional testing do they want you to do? The only thing that I can think of is the NST's starting around 30 weeks.

Do you have appts more often even in the beginning? nope.. I went every 4 weeks until 24 weeks.. then every other week.. then my MW switched me to every week now..

I labor super fast, will they want me to do an induction so they can control the situation? They might want to but IMO.. that is your decision.

Those that know the sex of thier babies...did you find out through your basic u/s or another test like the cvs? u/s.. at 20 weeks.

Here's the general answers to all your questions..

So...how many u/s should I expect? This varies by doctor and you. If you have no issues, you won't have too many, but still more than you would if you had a singleton. If you have issues, you'll definitely have a lot more than that.

Will I have to see a Peri? Again, varies by doctor and your situation. Sometimes docs may want you to see a Peri once to do a full diagnostic and then you won't see them again. Others are followed by a peri consistantly. Your doc should let you know if and when to see one.

Have you found your OB anxious to plan a c/s? Again, talk to your doc. Some docs are more worried about possible problems with twins/multiples and do tend to lean more towards a c/s. It's easier for them to control things. That said, depending again on your situation, if you are fine and the babies are fine - you can definitely have a vaginal birth. If there are complications the risk of having a c/s goes up. And definitely different types of twins makes a c/s more imminent. Mono/mono twins almost always have a c/s. Mono/di twins it goes either way. Di/di twins have probably the best chance at a vaginal birth.

What additional testing do they want you to do? Varies by doctors and your situation. Sometimes you may get just the basic tests unless there are any issues which may suggest needing CVS or amnio or other tests to check the babies. There aren't any tests specifically for multiples that I know of.

Do you have appts more often even in the beginning? Not necessarily and hold on...here it comes again - it will depend on your doc and situation. Again different types of twins may warrant more check ups to watch for signs of TTTS etc, but otherwise if there's no problems, you may not have much more than a mom of a singleton.

Will they want me to do an induction so they can control the situation? If your pg is uneventful and you have twins that are ok to come vaginally - they shouldn't control it too much. Again, talk to your doctor if he's ok with a vaginal birth if all things are uneventful and baby A is head down...

Did you find out the gender through your basic u/s or another test like the cvs? Majority of people find out via u/s.

Everyone is different of course, but here is what happened to me...

So...how many u/s should I expect?
I found out at 17 weeks I was having twins....I had an ultrasound every month after that.

Will I have to see a Peri?
I never did.

Have you found your OB anxious to plan a c/s?
My OB never pushed me for a c/s. I told him day one I wanted a vaginal birth and he understood that. We really didn't even discuss worse case senarios...

What additional testing do they want you to do?
No additional testing

Do you have appts more often even in the beginning?
I think after I found out I saw my Dr. 2 weeks after and every 2 weeks until week 36...

I labor super fast, will they want me to do an induction so they can control the situation?
I was induced at 39 weeks....for no other reason then I was 39 weeks.

Those that know the sex of thier babies...did you find out through your basic u/s or another test like the cvs?
basic u/s.

Since I had NO complications (aside from postitioning requiring a c-section), mine's the best case scenario, I guess!

So...how many u/s should I expect?
I got 2 diagnostic ones - the usual at 18-20 weeks, and one later at 33 weeks or so... my doc also 'peeked' at every visit, although it wasn't a diagnostic u/s, he said he'd rather look than use the doppler, since it was twins you can't really tell who was who with the doppler... he just checked their HRs, etc...

Will I have to see a Peri?
only for high-risk, most likely.

Have you found your OB anxious to plan a c/s? I am highly against one unless totally neccessary for the babies.
Mine was all for a vaginal birth, if I wanted to pursue it, even though both my babies weren't lining up head-down, I opted for the c-section. (Baby A was head-down, B was transverse.)

What additional testing do they want you to do?

None for me

Do you have appts more often even in the beginning?

not until 28 weeks or so.

Those that know the sex of thier babies...did you find out through your basic u/s or another test like the cvs?

Doc guessed at my 16wk and we found out at the U/S. The doc was right!
