Default Peri appointment.. and opinions wanted.

As I mentioned before.. I have never seen a Peri.. in fact I hadn't seen an OB in over 6 years until just a few weeks ago. So I am not really sure how to read them nor what the normal level of care is. So I need you all to give me your opinion on whether you feel its obsessive or seems about right.

ok..

Babies swapped positions. Dani is now baby A.. she is our peanut girl. and Sophia is B.

Dani is the baby that is measuring a bit behind.. she is measuring at 25 weeks 1 lb 7 oz. Sophia measured at 26 weeks 1 day (right on) 1 lb 13 oz. I had an u/s 2 weeks ago Dani measured 23 weeks 1 day..1lb 3 oz.. and Sophia measured 24 weeks 1 day (right on) and 1 lb 8 oz. So both babies seem to be growing.. its just Dani isn't growing at the same rate.

He checked fluid levels.. great, doppler flow.. wonderful, checked all her organs including the blood flow in the heart and a few things that I really have no idea what they were.. but seemed close to the heart so maybe some valves? All looked great. She moved around like crazy. He said that other then her growth.. she looks like a wonderfully healthy baby and he really has no reason to suspect TTTS at this point.. but IUGR is a concern.

Now.. I didn't really expect that he would want to see me again.. don't ask me why I just thought he would check on her and send me back to my MW and OB. But he instead said..I want to keep a very close eye on you and want you in here every week. I know that many of you see a Peri.. shouldn't it be every other week at this point?

ETA..I almost forgot.. here is Dani.. Sophia was snuggled up into Dani's butt so they couldn't get a good pic of her ..lol.. maybe next week.

Sounds like a pretty good appt. to me. I'm not sure why he's wanting to monitor every week at this point. I get an u/s every 3 weeks right now and I'm just a few weeks behind you. They said when I get closer to 30 weeks, I'll be monitored every 2 and then every week if need be.

If they suspect IUGR and your OB doesn't have the hottest u/s equipment, then it's well within the normal range to see your peri every week from now on. I was seen twice a week beginning at 28 weeks on. Once a week for an u/s w/ my OB and once a week for an u/s w/ my peri. That was a compromise to keep me from driving 45 min. one way to see my peri twice a week. My Ruby was IUGR and it was a very good thing to keep an eye on her. The thing with IUGR is that they can't alway discern before delivery what the cause is, so that means that something could change (for better or worse) and they can't predict it. So, they watch closely to monitor any and all changes.

For us, Ruby grew on her own curve, but always had borderline fluid issues and cord dopplers. She was definitely under stress, but it made her feisty The girls were delivered via c/s at 32 wks 1 day because she was starting to plateau on her own curve. She actually did better after delivery than her twin, being used to fighting and all.

I'm really happy to hear how well you're being watched. Enjoy all the extra u/s! We KNEW the girls' personalities SO well by the time they were born. Very cool.

I'm glad you're being monitored closely. That's a good thing!

As for the difference in growth, I was told it was normal to have a weeks difference between the two and u/s isn't that accurate anyway. They could really be much closer.

What a sweet U/S pic! I wish I could get the 3d done, I'm jealous! How fun!!!

Great u/s pic! Beautiful!!! I only had to see a peri one time so I'm not much help there. I'm diabetic and they wanted to get a CLOSE look on everything so that's why I seen one once during my whole pregnancy. Other then that, I saw my OB the entire time I was pregnant with my twins. I'm sure others will be able to help you our on this one.

What a beautiful picture!

I think being seen once a week is not unusual. With my regular OB with the twins, I saw her bi-weekly up until the mid-2nd trimester, then I started seeing her weekly. I think from 20 weeks-33 weeks, I had weekly appointments. I told her it was getting a little old because I felt great (i was 33 weeks along). So she let me go 2 weeks in between appointments, and poof, I went into labor a week later

Near the end of the pregnancy, it gets really tough going to all the doctors...Each week I went to the OB, peri, and for 2 non-stress tests...but it was worth it in the end obviously

Good luck to you...you are doing great! The good thing about seeing the peri once a week, is that you will probably get to an u/s every visit!!!
