Icon4 Charting, Periods, Cervical Fluid...HELP!

I just started charting in an effort to conceive baby #2. I have a few questions for those who are seasoned pros at this though!

I was on depo from the day I left the hospital after having DD. I remained on it for about 2 1/2 years and have been off of it for 2 1/2 years. That stuff is the devil, but that is a whole 'nother topic! Anyways, I had normal cycles before depo, but afterwards was a nightmare! I have been on and off BCP to regulate my cycles and have now been off BCP since October. My cycle is fairly regular in length, but is a bit strange. I have spotting for about 3-4 days and then a period for anywhere from 5-7 days immediately following the spotting.

Q #1: So, do I start Cycle Day 1 on the day of spotting or wait until I bleed more? I'm unsure only because the spotting and period all seem to go together. It is hard to tell when one ends and the other begins!

Q #2: I was told to check for cervical fluid in the toilet after using the bathroom in addition to checking manually, especially after a BM. I'm trying to get in the habit of peeking in the potty after using the bathroom even though I am currently spotting/period. Yesterday I saw a rather large thing that appeared to be cervical fluid. It looked like a glob of eggwhite, but was tinged with blood (because of the spotting/period I assume). It puzzled me because I am not expecting cervical fluid like this at this point in my cycle. Any idea what that is about?
