Emoticon Unhappy Should I be TRYING for a child in my 20s?

I'm financially stable with my partner, as well as have the backing of our families to have a child (which is very important to me ;] ) but I cant for the life of me understand why I cannot have a child. I'm healthy as far as I know! I'm 21, almost 22. I do have a very irregular period, every 3 or 4 months sometimes longer I'll have a period for 4-5 days. I haven't used any type of contraceptives since I was 17. (oh boy! I know that was a risky one! I'm not sure if I'm lucky or just infertile.) I have had the same partner ever since, about 5 years. However, I guess I'm starting this thread to see if anyone else has had this problem and//or what steps I could take to get help from my doctors without them looking at me funny and telling me how young and immature I am for wanting a child at this point in my life.

Actually I had brought up the fact that I thought I was infertile before to my doctor when I was 17/18, but they brushed that off and told me I was too young to worry about such things. Isn't that odd? I figured it could have been a serious health problem! Lol who knows now.
