Default Cohen's birth story and pictures!

You guys all know that I was scheduled for a repeat c-section for June 18. I was kind of nervous since I had opted for a spinal this time and had been put to sleep the last time but things couldn't have gone better I don't think.

I arrived at the hospital at 5:45 a.m. so they could administer IV fluids. Then they wheeled me into the OR preparation area to get me ready for surgery. Dh was a bit nervous by this point but I had amazingly gotten over my fears and was starting to just feel excited. For whatever reason I just knew things would be fine. I had been nervous for months up until that point and then the fear just kind of went away. Go figure!

Well, they made dh wait in the waiting area while they administered the spinal and there are just no words to really describe how that feels...or doesn't feel, if you will. The staff was amazing and joking around with me and put me at ease instantly. After the spinal was in and my dr. had everything in place they let dh come stand beside me. He kept his hand on my arm the entire time and I felt really reassured by that. I think he was doing it more to reassure himself than anything though.

I did not feel anything from the procedure. I didn't even feel a whole lot of pressure like I had thought I would. The spinal worked REALLY well. Within 5 minutes we heard a cry and Cohen had arrived. I was just in awe, as was dh. They took him cleaned him up and let me kiss him. They then gave him to dh and Cohen and dh left the OR so they could finish stitching me up. My OB is really great and we had some fun "girl-talk"while she did that. That took about 30 minutes I think. Dh said he got to cuddle with Cohen for 20 min. before they took him to the nursery and he was in love instantly and didn't want to give him up. He was the same way with Kylie.

They had me go to recovery until I could move my legs again. That took about an hour and a half and it was so weird to know that I was trying to wiggle my toes but just couldn't. I also had horrible chills and they had to bundle me in heated blankets and wrap a heated towel around the sides and back of my head. That was probably the worst part overall and that was not too bad. No, I take that back. The worst part was that I had to lay flat and couldn't even raise my head for 6 hours to help prevent spinal headaches. The time went fairly fast though.

I am amazed at how easy this c-section has been compared to the last and I thought I handled things pretty well last time. This one has been a real breeze though; I barely feel like I even had surgery at all. The dr. and nurses also seemed amazed and said they could see no reason to keep me the whole 3 days since I was doing well so they released me after only 2. I was thrilled! I am having a lot more of the lochia (sp.?) bleeding compared to last time but was told it is because I am breastfeeding this time. The incision doesn't really even hurt though as they were able to cut at the same spot from last time and that is so, so low and was already kind of numb so it really doesn't interfere with anything. I'd say the afterpains and nursing pains are the worst part and even that is bearable. I am not taking nearly as much pain medicine as last time either.

I feel really blessed. Dh is adamant that he doesn't want any more kids and I am 99.9999% sure we are done (especially since dh has said he's getting a vasectomy some time in the next year since I am not having any more surgeries myself...electively anyway, lol!) so I am enjoying every minute that I can. You guys know it goes by way too fast! I definitely feel that our family is the perfect size and complete now and I just feel so content.

Pictures will be in the next post since I just wrote a book!

I love this picture of my little man!

Scott, Kylie, and Cohen. Scott would not be happy that I posted this picture. He was really tired and not at his best...but then, none of us were that day!

Cohen and Mommy shortly after we arrived home.

And of course I couldn't leave the proud big sister out!

And me with my 2 little miracles!

We actually had planned to have my mom take a family shot of all 4 of us while at the hospital on Friday but we ended up getting to go home a day early so we never got to do that. My mom is coming here for a visit on Monday and said she'd take a picture then. I can't wait to have a shot of our now complete family. I really am feeling so blessed and happy right now.

What a great experience! I am so glad the spinal worked out for you and you were awake for the whole thing. What a little cutie Cohen is, and Kylie is such a proud big sister. You look great by the way, looks like you feel like your regular self. Congrats again! Enjoy your new complete family.
