It can be. If you are on state assistnace or wanting to get child support you are better off putting his name on there to begin with. I also know depending on state you cant put his name on there untill he sings the paternity affidafit (sp?) If you arent on state assitnace and not wanting to go after child support then its not a big deal at all. Though he can pitition the court to have his name put on there. I hope this makes sense! I am a single mom of 2. I am preg with my third. My ex and father of my first two is on my oldest childs birth certificate but not on the seconds. They were born in diffrent states. I can try and answer what ever questions you have.

tricia . .. do you live in Canada? If so, I'm not sure at all what the requirements are, but Nicole is right about the state assistance being easier to process if the dad's name is on the birth certificate.

However, my son did NOT have his father's name on the birth certificate and I still got through the medicaid and WIC process just fine . . . .

I think it becomes a personal decision for you . . . .

I know that for things like cash assitance and maybe food stamps they make you go after child support. This si much eaiser if the father is on the birth certificate. I found this out the hard way lol. Good luck hun.
