Icon5 Birth Certificate

Ok I have a question here that's a bit odd. I'm not sure how the law and all works with this issue and don't even know how to find out, but thought maybe someone on here would know.

This baby's biological father chose at the start to walk. I want him to be held responsible in some way and he knows it. Since he chose not to be involved in the life, he'll have to suck it up and pay child support.

The father to my other kids wants to claim this one as his on the birth certificate and raise it like we have our other two.

Is it possible to do both? Or will having MKD sign the birth certificate let the other guy walk away without being held responsible at all? I know I don't have to have any name at all as the father on there, but what about a different one than on the parental form?

Im almost positive that if you want bio dad to pay child support another man cant be on the birth certificate. My kids dad name is not on the birth certificate currently its says unknown, but their dad is ordered to pay me $1200 a month...not that I get it, but that is what he is supposed to pay.

I think that your other kids dad could still raise him as his own...who cares about the birth certificate. Go after the bio dad for support!!! Good Luck!

i think it depends on state to state laws. for example, my son was born in ohio. it was my choice to give him whatever last name i wanted. his bio father didnt want him and still went through child support to get a paternity test done. after the test came back, i had the option as to whether or not i wanted to modify the original information and put his name on it. So, i would contact someone at your local child support office and ask them.

Thanks for the info-I'll have to call in the next couple months or so and find out for sure then. Hopefully I can get it how I want it and it won't be a problem, but if I can't, I can't.

I agree whoever is on the birth ceritficate takes responsibility including financial. You can go through Child support services to get things started. That is what I ahve to do as well.

I'm not sure you can get child support if he isn't listed as the biological dad on the certificate. I could be wrong though. Something you defianantly will want to research

I asked at the courthouse today what the laws were regarding this. They said the person I have as father on the cert will be held responsible for medical and child support. If I leave it blank and need to do the paternity test to get the bio father to take responsibility, his name will end up on the cert no matter what I do. BUT I can give the baby ANY last name I want to and it doesn't matter if the name is nowhere else on there, so HA! I'm so glad for that at least.
