Holiday recipe exchange
I thought we could share some family holiday favorites.
Here's a new one I got from a colleague. It's a great cookie recipe:
This is what she has to say about it:
"My grandma has always made butter cookies - not too sweet, but crispy and light golden brown. 1 cup butter or margarine (I like the taste of butter better), 1.5 cups powdered sugar, 1 egg, 1 tsp vanilla, 2.5 cups flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp cream of tartar, and 1/4 tsp salt. Bake at 375 degrees until light golden brown (usually 10 minutes or maybe a little less, depending on the oven - this is one of those recipes that you can't just let go). Then we top it with a frosting made from 4 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 cup Crisco shortening, 5 Tbs milk, 1 tsp vanilla, and food coloring. I usually make it with Splenda instead of the powdered sugar, and with Splenda it becomes a glaze that Jakob squeezes over the cookies and then it hardens. "
FYI: it's not a recipe to use with the Kitchen Aid mixer. You should use your hands to mix the cookie dough. It's about the consistency of pie dough. Can be chilled to make it easier for cut out cookies but do not chill for too long.
I tried it today (minus the frosting b/c we haven't gotten to that yet). It is a great cookie!
