Re: April Chatty Thread
1smart -- Thanks for the info on your son and facing similar challenges to me with medical professionals. We saw our ped yesterday and, although I think his nurse thinks I'm weird for BFing, we got a good reminder that it was worth the work to find a ped that we like because he doesn't even bother to ask any more questions about food after looking at the BFing note. Now we just have to get to a good relationship with the rest of the medical professionals. (Note: some are good; our surgeon is awesome!)
I'm glad to hear that your son is doing so well now. TEF is thought of as a "childhood problem" even though its effects are lifelong. I'm hopeful that we can help O to learn to self-manage it at as young an age as possible so that it just becomes part of him rather than the thing that defines him.
Starztt -- How was Palm Springs? And, thanks (on behalf of the others around you) for keeping Leighton at home when she's sick!
Since talking about the issue here I've been watching carefully and most people seem to keep their kids home for serious illnesses, but, see nothing wrong with bringing them to activities with moderate colds. So, I'm still torn on what I should be doing. O can sound horrific with a very minor cold. So, that's a cold that just about everyone else seems to essentially ignore. Thus, I feel like O ought to be able to attend too. But, he sounds so much sicker than he is. (I wouldn't bring him with a moderate cold because it would be affecting his breathing too much.) Thoughts? (Tammy, where are you? What do you do?)
Trying -- How's M's face (rash-wise, since I know that it's cute)?
nanners -- I missed it on facebook, but, it sounds like you've had to find a new home for your dog. Is he doing okay? Is this the one you said likes to herd?
We have a herding cat, but, that's much easier to manage I expect.
I get the need to see stats before even considering an unmedicated cycle. The only reasons I really mention it is that I've seen others have an easier time the 2nd time around, my fertility doctor has said that it's test results at the time that matter and that it can change either way and that I seem to be having regular cycles for the first time in my life (though fertility analysis did reveal that my irregular cycles were ovulatory and had a full LP). I wish you luck with your hopes for a 2nd and hope you have a shorter journey.
I have this dream of getting caught up, and I think I'm making progress, but, it's very slow.
So, in our lives:
- O had his 1 year appt. They were all impressed by his walking, though his speech seems a bit behind the average. But, the response we got to that was, "well, he's a boy" so I don't think they are going to worry until 15 months.
- Last week when he was struggling a bit with something being caught in his throat, O signed "milk" to me. I had given up signing to him because he didn't seem to be paying attention, so, I was so surprised by it that I almost didn't notice/understand. He's done it 2 more times since (including once at the pediatricians office right as we were talking about his language -- so, it was clear that he understands even if he doesn't speak, or, just an amazing coincidence).
- O eats such varied amounts of "solids" that it's hard to know what's going on. We're still only trying to feed them to him twice a day because it takes so long and he can't really play for so long afterwards. Sometimes he takes about an ounce and then says that he doesn't want any more. Sometimes he eats 14-15 ounces, drinks 2 cups of water and then breastfeeds afterwards. Are any of the others this variable?
- My DW has a job long enough that I don't have to go back to work until at least Feb., but, if things shake out like they look like they might, O may have to go to daycare in Feb in order to reactivate my healthcare coverage before we lose my DW's. Ugh!
