Converting a crib to full -- HELP!

Has anyone had problems converting their crib to the full size? We bought a Baby's Dream crib and conversion kit in 2005. I have been so pleased with this crib, how it's held up to 3 babies in 5 years, and how NONE of my kids have even tried to climb out of it!

My problem is that when we assembled the full size bed, it measures 51.75 inches wide on the inside. The full size bed we had delivered today measures 53 inches wide. I read online that standard is 54 inches! The delivery guy said to try loosening the bolts, which to me seems like it will jeopardize the integrity of the bed.

Anyone have experience with this? I emailed the company, but I wanted to check on here.
