Not Sure and Need Advice
I am currently on the Depo-Provera shot, my first shot and my second one is scheduled for February 12th. However, I have had unprotected sex a couple times with the shot. (Jan 9. and Feb. 3). I am not currently concerned with the most recent encounter, I am concerned about the first. A few days after Jan 9th (at least 5-7) I started having early symptoms of pregnancy. I was tired, headache, moody, and every time I ate I would get nauseated. I even had a couple days of cramps that I hadn't had since started the Depo. That lasted a couple of weeks and now I'm just exhausted, have kept an almost constant headache that is normally dull, but will sometimes increase, and I'm *very* moody. I also feel different.
I should probably also say that I started the shot on November 26th, 3 days into AF. It stopped like normal - then AF came again on December 7th and didn't leave until December 24th. AF came again December 29th and was light and occasional until about a week to a week and a half ago. I had a break or two (like a day or a few hours) the last time AF was around though.
I know that the Depo-Provera shot is supposed to be 99.9% effective, but I have read several stories of women getting pregnant on it. A friend of mine works with 2 or 3 women that got pregnant on Depo and I myself know a woman that got pregnant on the Depo shot. I also know that my mother and I were both birth control babies, so I'm a bit concerned.
I'm just curious if I should worry about being pregnant or not. I know there is a possibility and everything and I can't say that I wouldn't be delighted if I was pregnant, but I'm clueless as to what I'm feeling and going through. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Not Sure and Need Advice
I don't know if I'm following your post correctly. Have you missed your period then? Are you late? Was Jan 9 or Feb 3 the last time you had a period? I will be honest I am not overly familiar with the Depo shot. I would take a pregnancy test and if you still are concerned I would visit with my doctor. If your pregnant, a home pregnancy test is usually very accurate. Keep us posted!

Re: Not Sure and Need Advice
I haven't had an actual period since November. According to the nurse at my Dr's office, the bleeding I was having after that was just breakthrough/spotting. Thus my concern. I'm probably going to test this week and if I get a negative result, I will probably ask my doctor to test me when I have to go in the 12th.

Re: Not Sure and Need Advice
So you haven't had a real period since November. I wonder if that is common with Depo shot? I'll try and look that up today. No time like the present to take the test. Besides sickness do you feel a firmness in your lower belly. If your pregnant your uterus will slowly be getting bigger. Most people by 12 weeks can tell they are pregnant, even if no one else can.
Major headaches were the first sign I was pregnant. Then, I had to eat, like NOW to prevent another headache from coming. By 12 weeks, I just wanted to sleep. So your symptoms sound like mine, but you won't know for sure until you test. Let me know what happens, and good luck!

Re: Not Sure and Need Advice
It is common with the Depo, I guess. I was told that it would stop my periods, but only after a year...
I wouldn't be too far along yet (only 4 weeks), but I can tell that something is different with me. I say that because I guess I'm just unusually tuned into my body. I can always tell when I'm getting sick or something like that. That's why I'm concerned. I'll hopefully (if I can get to the store) get a test this week and take it. If not, I'm supposed to go in for another Depo shot next week and I'll ask for a blood test or something before I get the shot. I read that if you are pregnant and get the shot again - you can miscarry. If I am - I definitely don't want that to happen.

Re: Not Sure and Need Advice
Well, I bought an HPT yesterday...Now all I have to do is take it. I guess I'm just scared to...I'd love to have a positive result(which makes no sense since I'm on Depo, but that was mainly for the horrendous cramps I had wiht my periods), but knowing my luck it'll be a negative result. I can always hope though!!!
I do have a question though or maybe a couple of questions...lol. Sorry, but I'm just very clueless. Okay, I had sex unprotected(other than the shot) late December and then early January. So would the HPT show an accurate result now? Without having a real period I don't know when I should've had one or anything. If I was still actually on a normal cycle I would've had a period January 17th...Which during that time (if I remember right) I was spotting...
Eugh...I hate not knowing and waiting and stuff...Then again, doesn't everyone?

Re: Not Sure and Need Advice
Hi AngelBug! I agree, there is nothing more nervewracking then waiting for when you can test to see if your pregnant. Testing too early and you won't get an accurate result. The days go so slow don't they. Hmm.. You said you spotted on Jan 17 which would have been when you would have had your period. Well, spotting can be a sign of pregnancy, but as you probably know, being on Depo, that acould have been your period too. Oh geeze. Well some pregnancy tests say you can take the test and get an accurate result up to 5 days prior to your next period. The closer to your actual day you take it or waiting till a couple days after will give you better results. I guess the question that only you can answer is do you think you have been pregnant since Jan 17 or that you may have gotten pregnant afterward. If you think you've been pregnant since Jan 17 then take the test now. If you think you might have gotten pregnant afterward I'd wait till I saw the doctor, prior to that you may not get an accurate result. Does that make sense?
Either way, I'd share your concerns with your doctor. They will want to rule out pregnancy anyway before they give you another Depo shot. Let me know what you find out!

Re: Not Sure and Need Advice
My friend used depo and she went like 4 months without a period. I dont think it will matter I took a pregnancy test when I was 3 1/2 weeks and it was positive. Just take a test and see what it says no point in waiting and stressing yourself out. Your symptoms could be a result of depo, stress or other things. If you're really concerned take the test or see your OB. The can can tell if you are pregnant by a simple exam. If you're having cramps and you think you might be pregnant go to the doctors anyways because that could be a miscarriage......I had a miscarriage when i was 13weeks it started out as mild cramps and then the following week it hit me hard. So just check with your doctor to be on the safe side and give yourself some reassurance....GOOD LUCK

Re: Not Sure and Need Advice
Well, I took the test finally...
And I'm not...
I'm still going to the doctor next week and I'm going to find out what's been going on and I'm going to stop the Depo shot and probably get put on the pills. They'll probably give me a pregnancy test too - and I can already give them an answer - nope.
RockLittleMama - thanks for all your help and advice.
I'll be going now...
