Icon4 Hospitals need to make childbirth mother-friendly

Dear forum readers,

CIMS created the guidelines for a mother-friendly childbirth initiative in hospitals and birth centres since birth is more technology- or hospital staff-friendly than anything else. Once I have 500 signatures I plan to send a copy to all the maternity hospitals in my area. You can use it to do the same. Please sign it! Thanks.

Another petition (for Albertans mainly) is to have the Government finally agree to fund midwifery. We are way behind BC, Ontario and Quebec (and soon Manitoba) on this one item. See www.petitiononline.com/abfund/petition.html

Default Re: Hospitals need to make childbirth mother-friendly

Being from BC I can tell you our hospitals really have changed to become more childbirth friendly. With my first I had an emergency c-section, really wawsn't informed about pain meds and was moved to 4 rooms on 3 floors. With my second I went to a different hospital, had qa successful VBAC, and stayed in one room with my child the entire time, If I had needed another c-section they had a room available just down the hall. The nurses told me anything I needed to know about pain meds. With my first I went all natural with only a sleeping pill til I was wheeled into the operating room 18 hours after I had been induced, and I had back labor the entire time. Very nasty experience. With my 2nd, I had an epideral, Gas, and local with the episiotomy. Both were back labor, but two extremely different experiences. I am going to the same hospital as I did with my second one this time because I had such a great experience and recovery.
