Default Foundation Problem

I was never taught how to put makeup on right so I just went on my own when I was a teenager lol but I have a issue, I use Magix X face perfector first its a cream by Avon used to get rid of oilyness shineness and then I put on my foundation right now I am using a cream to powder type well no matter what type of foundation I use it always ends up not being smooth if you know what I mean lol. Like for example on places like the bridge of my nose and chin its not smooth its like spotty? I dunno the correct term for it lol Do you know how to correct this? I dont use a moisturizer, could this be the problem?
