Beauty Expert Q&A: Foundation Problem - applying mineral makeup
Q: Mineral Makeup - must try some, how easy is it to apply?
A: You can achieve a fabulous, natural look with mineral makeup, but this has to be one of the most difficult foundations to apply, unless you go to the counter and have a consultant teach you.
For this type of makeup, it's really important to prepare your base/canvas before you apply the minerals.
After applying your moisturizer, smooth on some primer. Now that you have your base ready, swirl the minerals into your specially designed foundation brush. You need to make sure that you swirl until all the minerals have been picked up by the brush. Then, using a certain amount of pressure, start buffing at the chin, working slowly up to the forehead.
Once you have buffed the whole face, you can then decide to apply another layer depending on the coverage required. Next, using the bronzer, make a - W - shape from the temple down the cheek, up the nose and then down the other cheek up to the opposite temple. This gives the effect of sunlight on the face.
Finally, finish off with a dusting of Mineral Veil by Bare Escentuals. Working in downward sweeps, the mineral veil sets the makeup and helps to absorb excess oil. It also gives a beautiful glow to the skin.
As always, practice makes perfect!
Once they get the hang of this particular type of makeup, many people find it difficult to go back to traditional, liquid foundations.
I do recommend you pay a visit to a counter and have a consultant, who has been trained in the application of minerals, show you this technique.
