Beauty Expert Q&A: Foundation Problem
Q: I was never taught how to put makeup on right so I just went on my own when I was a teenager lol but I have a issue, I use Magix X face perfector first its a cream by Avon used to get rid of oilyness shineness and then I put on my foundation right now I am using a cream to powder type well no matter what type of foundation I use it always ends up not being smooth if you know what I mean lol. Like for example on places like the bridge of my nose and chin its not smooth its like spotty? I dunno the correct term for it lol Do you know how to correct this? I dont use a moisturizer, could this be the problem?
A: Applying foundation is a technique which can be learned, but firstly it's important to look at the condition of the skin underneath. From what you tell me, it sounds like your skin may be in need of an exfoliator.
To prepare the skin for makeup, it's important to make sure the foundation has a suitable base. I recommend you exfoliate once a week in order to remove the dead skin cells, this will also help to create a smooth surface, and if you do this on a regular basis, you will see the texture of your skin begin to improve.
Next, it's vital to apply a moisturizer suited to your skin type, immediately before applying your foundation. Then perhaps you can move onto a primer. The primer works to smooth out the surface of the skin and creates a barrier between the skin and foundation.
Finally, it's a good idea to invest in a foundation brush. Apply a little of your preferred foundation to the back of your hand, then making sure your brush is fully loaded, blend the foundation in small strokes from the nose outward. The effect will be flawless! Once you get the hang of this, you will probably never go back to finger tips or sponges.
To make sure your makeup lasts all day, I recommend an application of powder or mineral veil. Mineral Veil by Bare Escentuals works wonders on oily skin, and if you do suffer from outbreaks throughout the day, a quick brush of this product will guarantee the shine stays at bay!
