Beauty Expert Q&A: Blush
Q: I have difficulty finding the right blush color for my skin tone. What is the best way to choose blush colors?
A: Believe it or not, blush can be notoriously difficult to get right, get it wrong, and you will look like a clown!
Here's some tips:
To match your perfect shade, run up a few flights of stairs or jump up and down for a few minutes, then take a look in the mirror, your complexion will show your natural flushed state, this is the color you want to look for in the store.
If this all seems a little extreme, figure out your skin tone and texture and go from there e.g. cool toned dry skin will benefit from creamy blushes in warm apricots and dusky pinks while oily, olive-toned skin is well matched to powder blushers in deeper shades.
You can also try bronzing powder applyied with a big brush to the areas of the face that the sun would naturally shine on - across the tops of the cheek bones and down the bridge of the nose.
Another favorite trick of mine is to apply Laura Mercier's illuminating tinted moisturiser to the tops of the cheekbones, this product will pick up the light and highlight this area of your face. For a polished, sophisticated look, you can also apply it down the bridge of the nose and in the cupid's bow.
The best way to achieve your signature look is to practice in the comfort of your own home and check to see how the blush looks in all kinds of light.
Finally, to prevent early morning accidents, keep your designated blush brush separate from your regular brushes!
