Alyssa's Six-Month Appointment
Alyssa had her six-month appointment today. She's doing really well. She's 15 lbs, 10 oz, 27 1/2 inches, and her head circumference is 16 1/2 inches. She gave the doctor lots of big smiles, and was entertaining herself with the paper thingie she was sitting on. Then, she sat up by herself for the doctor, and pulled up and stood up touching one of my fingers for balance. The doctor said that it didn't matter that she isn't rolling over yet. She probably finds it more satisfying to be sitting up and standing. She got shots in both legs, and screamed for a minute or so, but then settled down.
The doctor told us we can start solids with this super-strict regimen of one teaspoon of food a certain kind of food the first day, then two of the same food the next day, then three teaspoons a day of that food for the rest of the week, and then you can try the next kind of food. Strict orders were: first a week of rice cereal, then a week of oat cereal, then a week of mixed rice and oat, then a week of barley cereal, then a week mixing rice and oat and barley. Then a week of one veggie... then another... then a week of mixed... then a third veggie. Then, after three veggies, she's allowed to try a fruit. After three of those, an egg yolk... a week later, some meat. Seriously??? At that rate, by the time Alyssa gets married, she might be far enough through the list of foods to be allowed to try seafood!
Alyssa was so tired and hungry by the end of the appointment. The office is right around the corner from our house, so we left at 10 am, but didn't get home until after noon! No idea what the backup was, but all these kids who came in after us were seen before us. It was way too long for Alyssa to have to sit and wait. But she was really good and didn't cry once. I just felt bad for her by the end. She was exhausted and fell asleep before we got into the car. Then, when we got home, she BF like she thought she'd never see food again!
