Default Smooth Away--hair remover

I've wanted to try the "Smooth Away" hair removal system since I saw it promoted on "The View" television show. This is an "As seen on TV" product distributed by Ideavillage. The product claims to "gently exfoliate while removing hair" and "removes hair instantly and pain free". I've had trouble with razor burn and was hoping to find a replacement to shaving my legs, armpits and bikini area, all of which are pictured on the box, along with the lips and arms. The item cost $9.99 from a local store.

The "Smooth Away" product comes in a small box that contains a travel case, one large applicator, one small applicator, five large flex-crystal replacement pads, and five small flex-crystal replacement pads. I've opened the box to show the contents.

The directions are simple. You are to gently buff in circular motions using slight pressure. It says to go clockwise three times then counter clockwise three times and repeat until the hair is removed. The small applicator is supposed to be used to touch up uneven areas like the knee or ankle or on your face. Moisturizer is to follow hair removal.

The product reminds me sand paper, although it does not hurt or scratch. It did not work on my armpits or any uneven area, even with the small applicator. The large applicator did remove hair from my legs. It was a time consuming process though. I don't think the product is very practical for a replacement to shaving for me. However, it did remove hair and leave my legs feeling soft from the exfoliation. I will probably use it as a supplement to shaving while traveling or when I need to take a quick shower but have time later to rub my legs for a while.
