Birth story and pics of my little man!
Goodness have I missed you ladies. It's been a crazy week, but I am so happy to have my baby boy finally here.
Here's the story:
At my 39 week appt last Tuesday, my doctor decided to go ahead and schedule an induction for yesterday. I was happy to still have some time to get last minute things done, but very nervous about being induced. So that was the plan. Well, Thursday morning at 3:30, I woke up having a lot of contractions. My mind started racing and I couldn't sleep without knowing how far apart they were. By the time DH got up at 5:30, I'd been having them every 5 minutes and they were becoming uncomfortable. So we got dressed, got Madison up and started packing. His parents came over to watch DD and we got to the hospital around 8am. I was at 3-4 cm and 60%. So they had me walk for a couple hours. And thankfully, the contractions got stronger and down to 2 minutes apart. By the time my doctor got there and checked me at 11, I was at 5-6 and 80%, so he went ahead and broke my water. They got us set up in a room and within an hour I was hurting pretty bad and they got the anesthesiologist in right away. The epidural went in super fast and within 5 minutes, all was right with the world. Unfortunately, Hunter's heartrate started dipping with every contraction; down to the 50's. So they got me on oxygen and kept having me turn from side to side. At one point I was on my hands and knees to see if his heartrate would stay up. I was super groggy and out of it, but I remember looking at Justin and seeing how worried he was. Nothing was working, so they called the doctor to come evalutate me. By that time I was at an 8, but he said it was a stretchy 8 and wanted me to start pushing to get the baby out. I pushed through 2 contractions and out he came! I still had to have an episiotomy; that's how quickly they wanted to get him out. Turns out the cord was unusually short and wrapped around his neck. So they cut it before his body came out; Justin was bummed he couldn't cut it. But he is perfectly healthy. He's so much more laid back than Madison and hardly ever cries. He's still sleeping all the time, which has allowed me time to spend time with Madison. So far, she isn't too thrilled to have a little brother. She's used to having my undivided attention and doesn't like to share. I feel bad, but we'll get through it.
I have a ton of catching up to do. Can't wait to see who else has had their baby while I was gone.
