38 week OB appointment
Had my weekly OB appointment today. I saw the doctor who's the head of the practice and I really like. I finally got my birth plan written up, and he looked over it and said it was all very reasonable. He clarified a couple of things, but he didn't seem to object to any of it outright. We talked a little about when we would do what, too, and though he suggested maybe sweeping my membranes or even inducing with Pitocin at 40 weeks, he also seemed fine with waiting until 41 weeks if everything else looked fine. I'd really like to avoid induction since that can increase the risk of rupture with a VBAC. Not sure about sweeping the membranes at 40 weeks--I'll have to look into that.
My blood pressure was up a bit at 130 over 70, but the nurse said that was still fine. (Running late and being taken straight back might have something to do with the higher reading.) Nothing more was said about it. The measurement was 37 cm, the heartbeat was fine at about 144. The doctor thought the baby was lying with his back along my left side this time with his head way down, and they found the heartbeat on the left, too. Baby still seems to be moving around a good bit, which I think is a good thing! I asked about the GBS and they said it was negative, also good. The doctor checked my cervix and it was pretty much unchanged at about 2 cm dilated and very posterior. That was a little disappointing--I've been having more and stronger contractions in the evening and I think the baby's dropped lower. I really thought there would be more progress in 2 weeks! All told, it was a good appointment.
