Help My trip to labor and delivery- long

I guess it was my turn to take a trip to labor and delivery. On Wed I was at work (I teach) adn about 11:30 I felt a contraction, but I thought nothing of. Well between 12-2 I had contractions every 10mins, so I called the doctor and was told that it was probably false labor because they were not getting closer together. They told me to go home and rest, drink water, and take a bath.
So my last hour of school I sat down and really counted the contractions and they were every 3-5 mins. So I called the doctor back and was told to head to labor and delivery. By the time I got there the contractions were very 2 mins. I was 35 weeks yesterday. My doctor does not stop labor after 34 weeks but will not help labor along until 38-39 weeks.
When I got there I was 1 cm dialated and 50% effaced. After 2 hours and pain meds I was 2-3 and 80% effaced. The doctors thought I was going to have the baby. The contractions got as close as every 1-1 1/2. They were painful!
II styed overnight, but I did stop dilating though which is a good thing. The contractions started to spread out and completely stopped by 2 am. I contracted for 14 hours. They stayed away for 3 hours and then came back that morning every 7-15 mins. Through the day yesterday they spread out and today they were very spardic. I really don't know what to think of this. I mean it is so wonderful that she is still inside, but I don't know if I can contract everyday for the next 4-5 weeks. I feel terrible, tired, nauseous, and in pain.
I am also still working since they don't stop labor they don't stop you from your everyday activities. Has anyone else done this? Does this mean the baby will be early? or can I really be 3 cm and 80% effaced with contractions for weeks?
