FYI - Antidepressant
I decided that I needed to go back on anti-depressants and my OB gave me zoloft.
Gave me horrible, horrible headaches. I went to my GP and he wrote a script for Wellbutrin (what I was on - and loved - pre-pregnancy) and told me to check with Vinnie's pediatrician.
Pediatrician gave the thumbs up and said it was fine to take even when nursing.
I started taking it on a Thurs and then on Saturday I came down with a horrible stomach flu and couldn't even keep down water.
A few days later I returned to work and couldn't get hardly anything when pumping!! I gave it a few days (wondering if it was the illness) and then called the pediatrician to see if they knew of Wellbutrin impacting milk supply. They hadn't heard anything and then did some research and couldn't find anything.
I checked with the pharmacist and he looked it up and said that one of the side effects of Wellbutrin is "dryness", so he said that it wouldn't be hard to extrapollate that it could dry up milk supply.
I went off Wellbutrin and - amazingly - my milk supply has gone back to where I was pre-wellbutrin.
Just thought I would share as I hadn't heard of it and neither had anyone else. Plus there is not a lot of information out there. Obviously it wouldn't happen to everyone, but if you know of a nursing mom going on Wellbutrin - tell her to keep a close eye on her milk supply.
