Will you vacinate your baby?
We no longer vacinate. All of my children but my 2 year old has had vaccinations though. My 2nd child developed Kawasaki Disease 3 days after his 4 year old vacination and while they won't say it caused it they do not know what does cause it, and Kawasaki IS an autoimmune diesease. I have done lots of research on it and it makes me go hmmmm. (like now they had to add a warning to the rotovirus vaccine that is can cause Kawasaki Disease. My sons was severly sick with this disease and could have died. He did not suffer anyurisms but already had cardiac changes on day 11 when he was admitted into childrens hospital including the swelling of one of his coronary arteries) When my 4th child recieved his 18 month old shots he had a severe reaction. (The "rare" kind that is listed on the vaccine insert) He screamed solid for 1 whole day, exremely high fever, very strange regressed behavior (he stopped interacting and talking. He just sit on the floor and stare or cry) It was a very scary time that involved MUCH prayer. 10 days later he broke out in a severe rash that looked like measles, but then he started recovering. That was the last vaccine he had. I felt like God was telling me not to vaccinate the baby when I had him and had to sign a waiver in the hospital refusing the newborn heptB shot. I'm not against vaccines but I do feel like people should be treated as individuals and what works for one might not work for another. After much praying and research (TONS of research) we decided not to do vacinations.

There is no way in the world I will vaccinate my children! I feel that the risks definately outweigh the benefits.

Re: Will you vacinate your baby?
We will vaccinate, mainly because my children can not attend Public School if they are not vaccinate. I have to work therefore we can not do home schooling. I do however limit the vaccinations only to those ones required for admission to school and no others.
I have no issues with vaccinations, however I don't believe in over medicating my children and with all the issues comming out in relation to vaccinations, I like to use a little caution.
However, that being said, I don't think the Canadians vaccinate as much as the U.S does. I may be wrong on this, but it just seems that on previous boards, the parents in the States who do get their kiddos vaccinated, seem to be doing it more often.

Ditto to Sheri.
We will probably do some public, some private (whatever we can afford...) and the schools are very particular about the vaccines.

Re: Will you vacinate your baby?
I personally believe in vaccination - many of the things they vaccinate for are prevalent in the US, deadly if contracted by children, and the failure of vaccination is causing a resurgence in diseases that had largely been absent for many years. I've read too many stories of parents who chose not to vaccinate, and then their children became quite ill (lost their hearing, were hospitallized, and even died) from preventable illnesses, and I have no interest in carrying around that guilt if the worst happens!
I think there is such a thing as over-vaccination, and I think there are ways to vaccinate carefully. I will avoid vaccinations for the "extras" (like chicken pox) and I will make sure they are spaced out well. Around here, children are not allowed in public school without their vaccinations as well, so it is also mandatory by the age of 5, to some extent.

Re: Will you vacinate your baby?
I think it's an interesting decision, that is quite individual. For example, the chicken pox vaccine is a huge deal for me, as I never got chicken pox as a child. It is NOT good to get it as an adult, or while pg, so I was vaccinated (years before ttc, as I am a teacher & exposed to lots of kiddies) and ds was as soon as I could get him done. Now the gov't pays for it, so the new baby will have to have it, too. Every week or so we get another letter from daycare or school to tell us there is another case, and so far I've been okay (fingers crossed!)
My mum resisted vaccinations because in the UK they are quite against them. She didn't have my MMR done until I was refused admittance to school. I respect her (and others') beliefs very much, so I do as much reading as possible and try to make the best decision for my family each individual time.

Re: Will you vacinate your baby?
What an iteresting topic and bravo ladies for approaching this so well!
We vacinate. For a couple of reasons listed above like mentioned by Tkeys and your child cannot enter ANY daycare in this area without proper vacinations. Your options are to vacinate or become a stay at home mom and we need both incomes so it's not an option. Autism is something our area is very familiar with and 2 families were vacine free families so I'm still on the fence as to whether it's a nature or nurture reaction KWIM? Also, as someone who has had chicken pox 3 times, my children need to be vacinated for that just in case they carry my genes for that. The last time I had it, I was hospitalised for a week and had internal pox also, not something I recommend anyone have to go through......! However, if it is not a manditory vacine (other than the chicken pox one) we don't do it.

Re: Will you vacinate your baby?
We vaccinate. I never realized how many people don't, until I started coming to SK. In my town, it is unheard of to even think about not vaccinating. I have a lot of worries about vaccinating my kids, especially seeing as how more common Autism is becoming - but like the PP said, the kids have to be up to date before they can enter school. There's risks and benefits either way, but I think for our family, we will continue to vaccinate until the risks outweigh the benefits. Just my .02...

Re: Will you vacinate your baby?
Such a touchy subject and I must say this group of ladies is communicating so well!
Now on vac's.
I vac all my kids. Number one is due to the non admittance to school, but also I feel as though they do protect them from so many diseases.
My DH is from Guatemala and when he takes the older 2 over, I want them protected.
I am VERY picky though of when I do give my children their shots. They CAN NOT have anything that is anywhere near looking like a cold or anything where their immune system is down or low.
I also delay vac on some. As long as they are done before school, they are good.
