Default Qotd

Who plans on going natural, and who wants a birth with pain control, Meds?

With DD, I had 3 epidurals, none worked. I shouldnt say they didnt work, but.....I only had back labor, and my back was the only part that didnt numb out. The doc said I was a one in a million, that has a "hot spot" in my back that pain meds wouldnt adhere to. I dont think I will try it again. So basically I had natural childbirth, even though I opted for drugs. This time Im not even gonna bother.

Estimated Due Date January 2nd + - 3 days

The day you deliver, outside will be breezy. Your baby will arrive in the early evening. After a labor lasting approximately 7 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 6 pounds, 6 ounces, and will be 19-1/2 inches long. This child will have blue eyes and be almost bald.

First baby here...give me the drugs please! I think i have a pretty high tolerance for pain, so i know i won't be asking for it right away...but i hope i have the strength to admit when i truly need it and hopefully it won't be too late!

I will have a c-section so drugs are a must to numb me for surgery. I have experienced two vaginal births and I had epidurals with both. I held out for long as I could, but the pain became too excruciating. It was nice not to be too delirious with pain so I could enjoy the phenomonal experience. Giving birth is truly amazing and that moment when you hold your baby for the first time and look at their little face is so awesome I can't even describe it with words.

C/s here so a must have for drugs.

While I give TONS of credit to moms who go aunaturelle, I advise the FTM's to be open-minded to the posibility of drugs during birth so when the time comes and you decide you may need them, you don't feel like you let yourself down by not being able to do it without. Also, don't get set on drugs either as sometimes, things go too fast and you don't get the chance to have them or the don't work for you as Kim said above I did 24 of my 33 hours of labor without drugs but eventually I gave in, the last 9 hours were much more comfortable although still unproductive and I was glad for my epi once my c/s was announced.

My DR. knows I am to get an epidural upon being admitted...

With A, I asked for it when I was around 6 cm's.. with M, I asked around 3 cm's.. and was worried that it would wear off before it came time to push.. and I went from 3 to 10 in about an hour.. but I started to feel some pain so I buzzed the nurse and she said I was complete and ready to push! I wasn't completely numb by then so I was able to feel her crown.. I hope this delivery is just like that!

I made it through many hours and to 6cm before I asked for the epi. The last 7 hours were much more comfortable, but I also hates being immobile and not able to walk around. I also think that I was not really pushing right because I lost most of the sensation. This time I'm going to go as long as possible without one, and if I get to 10cm without it and run out of time to ask for it, then aunatural it is!

Good advice Chrissy! I had so many expectations, and so often, things just don't go like you expect them to

Kim, you poor thing!! I've never heard of that happening....must've been verrrry frustrating!

Uhhh, bring on the epi! With my first, I held off for as long as possible, not sure if I'd get one or not. But once I started shaking, feeling like I was gonna hurl at any minute and tearing up I gave in. So glad I did....I was so comfortable after that, didnt feel a thing.

Same thing w/ #2....got the epi, didn't feel a thing. Love those things!!

I definitely applaud women who go natural....or who want to go natural. I just don't see the point for me. Millions of babes are born w/ epis and they're fine, so I say the more comfortable for mom, the better the experience.....

When it wasn't certain whether I'd have to have a c-section with Jack or not, my doctor asked me if I wanted to draw up a birth plan. I told her I only had one birth plan: Getting all the drugs she could give me. But...I never dilated with induction enough to actually get pain meds. Oh how that sucked.

As it happened, I had the c-section and that spinal was a beautiful thing after hours of endless contractions.

I'm going to take the minority route here and opt to go without again.

My first was so easy--I arrived at the hospital at a 6 already, went from 6 to 8 in an hour, and 8 to 10 cm +2 in an hour.

My second was a longer labor, more drawn out. It lasted a total of eleven hours, but only four of those hours were in transition. Managed to handle that without meds too. By the time it was over, I was exhausted, but I felt pretty proud of myself!

If I can handle two, I can handle one more. As always, I plan on keeping an open mind because you never know--but for the most part I wish to go med-free. I also wish I could go pain-free, but you know--not gonna happen!

i am an epi mom! had it with all the last 3, plan on it again! with my first they gave me some demerol before the epi, NEVER again, I hated that, I was so tired already, and it was making me fall asleep, so I couldn't prepare for the contraction, so it would wake me up and that was aweful! I have long labors, 16 with DD 22 with DD2 and 16 DS. so i figure this one will be long too....so bring on the drugs!

I don't need to be a hero. If I need meds, I'm getting the epi.

I had an epi with all five of mine and I must say I had GREAT, labors. Labor was an enjoyable experience for me. With my first I made it to 6 cm and was in a good deal of pain by the time they brought it and then it was wonderful. I chatted with my family and rested on and off and had no prob pushing him out and he was 8 pounds. With #2 & #3 I had the epi not long after I arived and never really felt much pain. Now #4 was my most painful and he was born 30 minutes after I arrived at the hospital. But I was hurting SOO bad by the time I got to the hospital and was told I was only 2cm. They left me in triage for what to me seemed like hours because I started hurting worse and worse and he was the only one I had back labor with. 5 minutes later dh had to get the nurse and she had an attitude about checking again but I was five. She rushed out and the dr came in and checked and I was 7. I walked to the labor room, went to the bathroom to tee-tee and when I came out they were ready to do my epi. They checked me while they were still taping the epi down and I was 10. I was ready to push and they didn't even have time to set everything up properly. I pushed twice and he was out. #5 was my longest labor because he was premature. (the flu put me in early labor) I had the epi and it was refilled 2 more times before he was born 18 hours later. But I hurt so bad after he was born in my back. Don't know if it was just from such a long labor or all that medication.

I wanted a home birth and of course that would be drug free, but since it's not an option I will probably take the epi again.

I had an epidural with my first. I wasn't too amazed by it, but I probably needed more medicine and didn't ask. First they gave me I think it was called percodin? something like that, I would NOT recommend it. I was in terrible pain, they gave me this drug, which all it seemed to do was give me a perma-grin. Meanwhile I was so doped up I could talk to say it hurt sooo bad, and everyone in the room was grinning cause they thought I was sooo comfortable. Needless to say it PISSED me off!!! haha. Not sure if I can really explain it correctly. I want to get an epidural again, but not wait so long this time.
