Default Dry skin!

My skin stays very smooth normally. In the last four weeks, it has become very dry. My feet are like sandpaper. My arms are flaky. But let's talk about my face. It looks raw and red in some places, mostly around my mouth, nose, and chin. I swear, my face is peeling off.

No matter what I do, it continues to do this daily. It's raw, and it burns when I apply my face soap--though very gentle--and I don't scrub or use anything harsh on my face. My routine has not changed at all since before becoming pregnant, so I don't know what the cause is. Dehydration? Maybe it's because of hormones? Or maybe it's because I can't use the topical meds I used to put on my face...I don't know.

Does anyone else have this symptom? And what do you put on it?

Try a moisturiser for extremly facial skin only on those areas. That should help. Sorry you don't feel great right now about your skin!

I would mention it to your dr, I know that dry skin can be a sign of something bigger or it could just be a normal pregnancy side effect. I like the gold bond, it goes on thick but it stops the itching

I use a Dove daily facial moisturizer every day. It makes me feel sooo soft, I love it!

I'm going to talk to the dr about it. I don't remember my skin being like this with either of my other pregnancies. I would assume it's from dehydration because it's all over, but the skin on my face is really bothering me! It hurts.

In the meantime, I will try some of your suggestions. Thanks!

Sue - I agree with you - I think its probably mild dehydration (tears can do that!) Plus, the amniotic fluid changes out every 3 hours, and it's changing 2 cups of fluid - baby will get his/her fresh fluid no matter what, and your skin will be the first to suffer because its the furthest from the center. The center also holds the vital organs, which the body will protect too. My skin is the first indicator that I'm dehydrated, even before dry mouth!

Try picking up a 1 litre bottle of water, and continuously refill it. I have one in the am before lunch and one in the afternoon before dinner, just to be sure that I'm getting at least 2 litres of water/day. I say try water first, and any kind of mild lotion on the body, but something super super gentle (with no alcohols, fragrances, or soaps) for face, like cetaphil. I use aveeno, but even with aveeno some of it is not necessarily hypoallergenic - you have to read the label pretty closely. The soaps, alcohols and fragrances will irritate sensitive skin and make your problem worse .

Thanks! The dryness seems to be clearing up a bit, but not as much as I would have hoped. My skin is still flaky in the same places. It's just not as bad as it was last week. I'm working on drinking all the water I can. I think the best indicator of hydration is the color of the urine, and so far mine hasn't been so great. The problem this time is, I have a bad water aversion! I'm trying to drink other things with water in them, but I don't think it's quite the same.

Thanks for all the information though--it really does make sense.

PS I can't believe you are already 15 weeks along, Suzanne.
