Girl!! The u/s teck said she was 95% sure it was a girl. We are so happy. The baby looked great and was bobbin her head like she was dancing or something.
The bad news...I was diagnosed with a incompatent cervix today...it is already thinning out and I will most likely have to have surgery to stitch it up so the baby does not "fall out" as he put it. I go back next week for another u/s so they can see if it has continued to thin out. I am so scared. Has anyone experienced this, I could use some positive advice.

Congrats on the baby GIRLIE! I still can't believe we're already finding out From what I hear once you get the cerclage done it's great for keeping baby in. I'm sure there are groups you can check for... keep us posted!

Re: We are having a......
that is the link for the myspace group for incompetent cervix. I know she did not have a great experience, but she was prego with twins, the cerclage gave 3 months early and the twins were born, but both are happy and healthy.

Re: We are having a......
Congrats on your sweet little princess!!
I know one person in RL that had an incompetent cervix, I won't tell you the story on her first pregnancy. They didn't stitch her up in time.....
However I know someone from my BIF07 board that has had a cerclage twice, once with her little one born in Feb 07, and she has one again right now (she is pg with twin girls). So far so good!! If no one on here had had the expereince themselves I'm sure
Lynne wouldn't mind chatting with you!!
I will keep you in my prayers!!

Congrats on your baby girl!!
A cerclage is a wonderful thing and can control the cervix from becoming too thin and causing preterm delivery.
They will give you a list of do's and dont's and keep a real close eye on you from here on out. So get used to peeking at your new little cutie!

Congrats on your baby girl!!!!!
I have a friend who had "funneling" of the cervix sometime in her second tri; she was on bedrest for a couple weeks and it got better on its own and she didn;t end up needing a stitch or anything. I hope it can resolve itself. Did you have this issue with your other 2?

Re: We are having a......
Congratulations on the girl!
My cousin had this problem . . . she had to have a cerclage (where they stitch you up) but she was still having problems and ended up on bedrest from 20 weeks on . . . she did, however, deliver a healthy baby full term! For future pregnancies, they usually will do an abdominal cerclage (it is a more complicated stitching through the abdomen) that they like to do in the first trimester, I believe . . . I know it is definitely too late at the 16 week mark. I have another friend right now who is having the same problem - but her cervix had already thinned too much for the cerclage (I think it needs to be 3+cm, and hers was 2.6. They told her if she got down to 2 cms, she would go on bedrest. She has to go for weekly u/s to monitor her cervix, and so far it is holding steady. She is now 22 weeks pregnant.
So, hang in there. They'll see how much you have thinned, probably keep monitoring you, and you may have to do the stitch to help things out a bit. Good luck!!

Re: We are having a......
I did not have this problem with my previous pregnancies, but I did have surgery on my cervix in Jan due to abnormal cells (leep procedure) so I am sure that is what is causing the incompetent cervix. I also had a tubal pregnacy last June, but I am not sure that had any affect on my cervix (I assume not).
I have been reading up and it looks like the cerclage surgery is relatively safe and has great results, however it is usally done by 16 weeks.
Please just pray that this baby stays where she should, I am so worried and although I have a appt next Thursday to recheck my cervix, I wish I could just request them to go ahead and do the surgery so I could feel that my baby is safe.

Re: We are having a......
The LEEP probably did it - all the people I know with the problem had LEEP procedures.
There are actually 2 different types of cerclages - one is the abdominal cerclage, and that is usually done by 16 weeks (often even earlier). The second is the vaginal cerclage - it is not quite as effective, but I think they can do that well into the 20-something week range. Hang in there and try not to worry.

Yay for a baby girl. I know hearing anything negative about your pregnancy is scary but I'm sure your doctor will take good care of you and your baby.

Re: We are having a......
Congrats on the Girl! I havn't official joined the group but I look every now and then to see.
I have an incompetent cervix. I had a cerclage put in with my second son at 16 weeks and this pregnancy had it done at 13 weeks. With my first son My cervix waas open to 4 cm at 25 weeks and I was stuck in the hospital the whole time I was pregnant when they finally let me out at 38 weeks. I left that day and went back the next and had him.
My second son I had the cerclage at 16 weeks. I had alot of pain and cramping the first day but after that it was smooth sailing. Except for the fact that I sat on my butt the whole time. I was able to go out a few times a week briefly. They took the stitch out at 34 weeks. and I had him 3 weeks later. After the sticth came out it slowly opened. They checked me every week.
With this pregnancy they decided to do it early cause my doctor was going away. It turned ok so far. I woke up from surgery. I had no pain really. When I do get up in the morning I do feel the stitch moving sometimes. I do get sharp pains down there. but all and all it has worked out great for me. If you have any other questionsn just ask.
