Update on yesterday's cramping - long
So after experiencing light, menstrual like lower abdominal cramping and slight pain in my thighs, I decided to call TeleHealth Ontario, a service provided in my province where you can speak to a registered nurse at anytime re: medical questions. I called and there was a 70 minute wait, so they put my name on a call back list. When the nurse called me, she asked me a series of questions and said that she would know how to assist me based on my responses. After answering her questions, she told me something I really wasn't expecting. She asked if my husband was home, to which I responded no (he was at work), so then she asked if I had someone that could take me to the closest labor and delivery. I told her I could call my mother, so she advised me to do so and to lie on my left side until my mother showed up (apparantly when feeling cramps, lying on your left side is the best thing to do for baby). Once I hung up I couldn't control my tears. I wasn't expecting such a serious response from her, I called my mom who picked me up. I had so many negative thoughts and just prayed to not lose my son. Once I got to the hospital, they sent me straight to the maternity ward, where I gave a urine sample and was examined. They took my blood pressure, my temperature, and listened to the baby's hb. She said everything seemed normal. She checked my cervix and it said it was completely closed. She then hooked me up to the machine to record the baby's hb and advised that I'd need to stay there for an hour (it was 10:20pm at this point). They also gave me a "clicker" to press every time the baby kicked. When she came back to check up on me she that they found blood in my urine and after calling my doctor, he said it could be a bladder infection or just plain stretching that was causing me the discomfort. After being there for an hour, the nurse told me everything seemed fine with my baby (thank God) and that my doctor wanted see me in the morning. When I saw my doctor this morning he felt around, moved my legs around asking if I was in pain, and after telling him no, he asked for another urine sample. He thinks I have some type of infection, but doesn't know what yet.
So here I am, relieved that my baby seems to be healthy and very active, but still worried because I don't know what's wrong with me and won't know until the doctor gets the results back from the lab. I can still feel the menstrual like cramps but they're not painful.
I'm anxiously awaiting the results of the lab, but so happy that my baby seems to be doing well!
Thanks for all your responses in my original post! It was because of you ladies that I decided to take action.
