BTDT moms....did your water break?
With my 3 pregnancies my water has been broken for me. 1st, somewhere during labor, 2nd, at 9 cm "w/ a lip", 3rd, 4 cm b/c i was progressing slowly and she thought it would speed it up...and it did.
So I'm wondering...are the chances good that my water won't break this time too b/c it didn't w/ my others? Or the opposite? Like my luck has run out and this time its bound to happen (not that i'd consider it unlucky...i actually want my water to break. I feel jipped...like i'm missing part of the whole pregnancy thing). Is it a body make-up kind of thing? Maybe my body makes really strong amniotic sacs?
I'm going to put this on the list of "curiosity questions" to ask my mw at my next appt.

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
Interesting.
With my 1st baby, I went 11 days past my due date before being induced. After 8 hours of labor, they broke my water for me to speed things up. Ended up having a c-section.
2nd baby was a scheduled c-section at 39 weeks, and my water was still intact.
With my 3rd baby I went into preterm labor at 24 weeks & 4 days, and my water did actually break on it's own. Of course once my water broke I knew I had no choice but to have the baby
With this pregnancy I have been scared that my water is just going to rupture early, but so far so good. I'm curious to know what your mw says.

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
My water didn't break on its own with DD. I'm not sure how far into labor that they broke it for me either. I just know that if finally make me progress a little faster! I kind of hope that my water will break on its own this time. I feel a little jipped about that too!

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
Yeppers, with dd#1 my water broke at 34 weeks in the deli section at the grocery store. I...kid...not! That crap doesn't only just happen in the movies. "Clean up on aisle 1!" lol
But with dd#2, I was 5 cm. and 80% effaced -- water was still intact. They broke it at the hospital after I got my epi to speed things along. DIdn't seem to really help a ton. Still needed pitocin to finish dialating in a normal time frame.
Good question!

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
I had my water broken for me during my induction with DD, somewhere in the beginning - didn't seem to do anything to the progression.
My friend's water broke on its own with her 1st, she even had to stand in the tub until it stopped before she could call anyone (she was home alone) . Her contractions didn't start until she got to the hospital. With her 2nd she had to have her water broken but was way into second stage labor once at the hospital.
I dont know why some women's water breaks on its own and some not, but I heard something like only 10% of women actually experience their water breaking on its own. I am not sure if thats true or not?

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
Mariah,
I am soooo glad you asked this. I have wondered and we have joked that I have "bags of steel". I worry about it with this one since I'll be teaching until I go into labor.
With my 1st, my bag did have a tear in it. I asked my dr. about it at my appt about 10 days before my due date and he basically said I was crazy and it wasn't my water. Well, it kept leaking for another day and got worse so I called. I went to l&d and they told me it wasn't leaking. FINALLY, a doc came in and did the fern test and it was indeed leaking. They broke the bag and induced me. I was so mad that no one believed me.
With my 2nd, my water didn't break until I was at 10 cm. It then broke and I delivered 15 minutes later.
With my 3rd, I arrived at the hospital at 5+ cm with a "bulging bag of water". My water didn't end up breaking until 10 cm *AGAIN* and 10 minutes later, I delivered.
I have wondered if I am just a "break at 10 cm and have the baby" person. I worry that it will break at school and then I don't have time to make it to the hospital. So, thank you for sharing that yours broke earlier the 2nd time. I forgot to ask my dr. about this at my last appt but will for sure ask in a couple weeks when I go back.
I wished they would have broken it with my 3rd instead of sitting around waiting, but it wasn't convenient for the dr. I think I'll insist they break it this time as soon as I get to the hospital.

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
Nope, never had the pleasure. The mw has always broken it for me. Actually with DD#3 she broke it just before she crowned since it wasn't breaking on its own. Ellie had a tiny little scratch on her scalp from the tool they used.
I think I will ask the mw too next week.

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
Mine broke on its own about 9 hours after I got to the hospital - I think I was about 5cm. My Dr had left the room to get the thing to break it herself but sure enough I was lying there and had a huge gush - such an odd feeling! I always wonder what it'll be like this time and if it'll happen at the start of labor or in the middle again!

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
With 1st, water was leaking for my entire three days of labor....a slow leak. I was a week late.
With my 2nd, I was a week late, and water broke and gushed...and continued to gush until I got to the hospital (15 min away) and I delivered only an hour or so later. I had walked for 5 hours that day at an amusement park and after I got home, put on my jammies, and made a bowl of ice cream...is when it broke!!! No, I did not get to eat the ice cream!
With this baby, I'm already walking 2 hours a day. When I get to 36 weeks (in mid August) I plan to start walking 3-4 hours a day. Yes, my knees will hate me!
My advice, start walking vigorously from 36-37 weeks on. As much as you can. I firmly believe exercise (especially walking) gets labor started and can also help your water break. It will also help you efface and dialate prior to labor so labor is easier. Studies have shown that the more you exercise during your pregnancy the easier your labor will be.

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
Yuppers... We were leisurely lying in bed on a Sunday morning, when whoosh...it was show time. I showered and then went to the hospital. Contractions started en route. It was 11 days prior to due date.

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
I was another one of those "in the movies" water breakers. I was coaching a softball game at 37 weeks with my son when I felt the Pop and Gush. And it gushed and gushed and gushed - my camp chair I had been sitting in was FULL and then it started running down the dugout onto the field! Hindsight it's kind of scary cause my son was not engaged at all and now I think how lucky I am that his cord didn't prolapse labor never did start and I had to be induced the next day..... With my daughter I got to the hosp with contractions and was 7 cm dialated. I had gbs so I had to lay around till the antibiotics kicked in. I didn't progress at all in 4 hrs then she checked me and accidentaly broke my waters and the contracts were WAY worse, but went quickly after that.....

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
Yep, my water broke with DS at 4:52am.
I had my first contraction at 4:30ish, it woke me up from a deep sleep. I thought it was just an intense braxton hicks because I had to pee. At that point, a full bladder would make me have a BH. So, I laid back down and 10 minutes later, I had another contraction. I tried to pee again and couldn't so it got me thinking. I got up and went to the PC so I could monitor them. I had another contraction around 4:50am and then my water broke in my PC chair 2 minutes later. I wish I could have seen my face at that time, I was in shock and I'm pretty sure I looked like a cartoon character and could even hear the "boing" . After that, my contractions were every 2-3 minutes lasting 60-90 seconds and INTENSE. I labored on the toilet for about an hour before waking DH up. I got to the hospital within 2 hours and was 5cm dilated.
I'm wondering if the same thing will happen with the twins. Interesting topic.

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
My water has never broken. The nurses had to break it (I remember with DD#1... she had somekind of hook in hand!! Scared the heck out of me!). I wonder why... with DD#2 I was at 8cm when I reached the hospital (took 20 minutes from my arrival until DD#2's birth) but nope, my water didn't break.

Re: BTDT moms....did your water break?
Nope...both times, the doctor broke it....once when I was about to push, and the second time he broke it to induce labor when I was 5 cm dilated.
