We always take our family vacation the last week of July the first week of August with the rest of my family. Well since I am due during those weeks DH and I are now looking for a Family friendly vacation for later in the summer after this little guy is born. We are looking for someplace that would be fun for a 2.5 year old but not too much trouble with an infant to. Where have some of you gone in the past or that you would like to go in the future?
We are thinking hands on Museums, zoos, Parks, beaches anything really... The cheaper the better
What part of the country do you want? In New Hampshire, there is a place called Storyland. Think Disney for the toddler set.
Your 2.5 year old will be able to ride on almost every ride, and you can actually carry the baby onto a few of them, too. It's based on the Nursery Rhymes, Fairy Tales, and classic kids stories. It's really fun. Plus, there is a place called Santa's Village a little farther north that a lot of families like.
Lots of hiking, camping, and climbing in the area, too.
Of course, I don't know if you want to travel that far.
We are having the same problem here...except that my DH is taking all three kids with him on the family vacation, and I'll have a whole 1.5 weeks to myself.

there is more then story land in the the white mountains.. clarks trading posts, whales tale, all of the Lakes region and N.conway has lots of good things that time of year.
(I lived in northern NH for 17 years)
I guess it's how far do you want to travel?

Right now we are open for anything. We would like to drive but flying isnt out of the picture either. Ill have to check out story land and see what I think.. Thanks for the input so far.
We'll be heading up to Maine in a little over a week...I'm thinking of suggesting Storyland to dh. It's pretty expensive...$24 a person, kids 2 and under are free...that is pretty steep! They do have free parking and free strollers...and the say that the food is reasonably priced
I think that the kids would really enjoy it. It should be great weather too!
I've never been there...even after living in New England my entire life. My sister went there when she was little, and I know my brother has brought his kids!

We went to Atlanta a few months ago for a weekend. Several of the things we did were actually for small children. The coca-cola museum, Fairbanks museum (a real dinosaur museum), an aquarium, we didn't go to the zoo, but they had one. It was pretty inexpensive for just us 2.
Storyland isn't too bad if you take advantage of their come back deal. If you get there after 3 pm on one day, you can go back any day you want for the full day without paying more. We did this, and it's a great deal. At 3 pm, most people are leaving and you can get on the most popular rides with no wait, and then the next day you can stay the whole day!
Plus, you can bring in your own food and beverage, so you dont' have to buy their stuff (although it is pretty cheap).
Anyway, I think we're going there again in June. It's only about a 4 hour drive for us, so we can do it in a weekend.
Another great vacation is Pennsylvania. Hershey Park/Sesame Place. I haven't been there since I was a kid, but my friends just went and said it was awesome.

I like the Atlanta idea...there is just so much to do. If you want to try something a little bit cooler Gatlinburg, TN also has a great aquarium and lots of different outdoor activities.
Really just depends what part of the country you would like to travel too.

You should check out newport aquarium too and I also hear the Ripley Aquarium in Gatlinburg,TN is AWESOME! Ive never been. Plus there are other things in the Gatlinburg area to do too.

DH and I went to Atlanta for our Honeymoon It was a lot of fun! We might look into Gatlinburg, we went there a few years ago but It might be more fun this time with tiny ones too.
Has anyone taken a trip to Clevland Ohio? I saw there was quite a few things to do there???
Cleveland is fun, but I've never done it with little ones. We like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and going to the ballgame (one of our shared goals in life is to catch a game at every MLB park). Cedar Point isn't far from Cleveland and that's a great time but again, not so much for little ones. There are some nice indoor waterpark resorts in the area, but I think of that more as a winter escape rather than a summer vacation.
In Ohio, Columbus is my favorite. Great science museum and zoo, and not too expensive because it isn't much of a tourist destination. Toledo is fun for a weekend because they have an awesome zoo, but the science center there closed due to funding issues so there's not much else for little ones to enjoy.
Have you ever driven up the west coast of Michigan? The Lake Michigan coast has a lot of fun outdoorsy stuff to do, and we've done trips up north with kids of all ages because my family has vacation property just inland from the sand dunes. There's an amusement park in Muskegon and a couple of waterparks along the coast, and in the Traverse City area there are a ton of family-focused resorts. On the other side of the state, the Detroit/Ann Arbor area is fun too - Henry Ford/Greenfield Village (The Henry Ford: America's Greatest History Attraction) are great for little ones who are into cars and trains and animals, the zoo is pretty cool, and the Detroit science center is a lot of fun. In Ann Arbor, there is a museum that is all hands-on that was a hit with my kids even as toddlers (Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum).
Another thought might be the Wisconsin Dells. It is *very* touristy, but I really liked the indoor waterpark resorts when my kids were very little because they are small-ish, contained, and easier to keep the kids in safe water than in lakes/rivers but with lots to do.
Thanks Culleen for all the info.. My parents vacation place that we usually go to is about a half hour north of Traverse City Thats where we usually go. We are just in the mood for something different. We took her to the Dells Last summer which was a hit with all of the water.. The Rock and roll hall of fame sounds like a lot of fun. I think they also have some sort of Childrens Museum and a Zoo there... Thanks for all of the imput..
