Planned C-Section Question...
okay- this is gonna sound silly- but...
Can you wear make-up during the surgery? It sounds vein, but my skin has gotten SOOO bad, and with DS1 the emergency c-section happened after I was already in labor for over 24 hours- so I didnt have any makeup left on anyway.
My sister is going to be documenting the whole thing for me so my DH can feel as much as a part of it as possible- and I want to look as decent as possible!
After my last c-s I had MAJOR swelling- like crazy- has anybody had extra swelling because of the surgery- or I wonder if my swelling was because of the long labor before hand.
Also- I am nervous about the cathetar- although I wish I had one ALREADY... do they give it to you before or after you are numb down there???

Re: Planned C-Section Question...
the catheter they give after you are under the epi. thank goodness. I also had MAJOR swelling. my maternity clothes I came to the hospital in did not fit to go home in, nor did they fit for at least 2 months. I think everyone reacts differently to the surgery. I don't see why you can't wear make up, I'm sure I had a little on for mine

Re: Planned C-Section Question...
The cath me after the epi is in...I never felt a thing.
Yes, you can wear make-up...or at least they never told me not to.
I was SUPER swollen... the fluids they give you will do it every time.

Re: Planned C-Section Question...
i was going to ask the makeup question, i looked like hell in the pics with my son and i want to wear makeup this time!!!!!
i got a spinal block right before my csection last time and they waited until i was mostly numb for the catheter. it was uncomfortable, but not painful.
i didnt swell, so i dont really know the answer to that.

Re: Planned C-Section Question...
Sure you can wear make-up! I remember when I worked L&D and the moms would come in ready for a runway show, all hair fixed and makeup on. Me on the other hand, I cry my make up off and I dont think you can make floppin like the exorcist attractive

LOL- Arwen... SURE thing.
I am going to the Dr. on Thursday- I will double check with her about the cath-
I am NOT going to ask about makeup though better to apologize than ask for permission- what is that saying- lol
I will take it off if they make me- I dont plan on going overboard on the eye stuff or anything- because I am sure I will be a huge freakin ball of emotions- I dont want to look like tammy-faye! I just want to have my zits covered as much as possible!
Uck about the being swollen thing- I will have to dig up a pic of me after slayde was born OMG I was HUGE!!

Re: Planned C-Section Question...
Hey I was swollen this time after a twin vaginal, epidural, IVs, and blood transfusion. My labor was short. I keep wondering what exactly caused my swelling. . . all these things?

LOL @ tammy-faye.
i plan on wearing foundation, blush ( i HATE looking pasty), light eyeshadow, a little bit of liner, and clear mascara. it doesnt work as well as regular mascara but it wont run either. i despise waterproof!

Re: Planned C-Section Question...
IV's to keep you hydrated... I was swollen after DS1 (see other thread for pics, too!) and had had 2 IVs.

Re: Planned C-Section Question...
Lurking from due in June...
I had an emergency c-section with my first child and a planned one with this baby so I can answer your questions.
You can wear make-up. No reason to even mention it to the medical staff one way or another. I wore make-up for mine and never even considered that it might not be allowed and no one said a thing. I can't imagine how it would be a problem anyway.
They asked me if I wanted to do my catheter after I had my spinal or before. Uh, duh! AFTER, please! I didn't feel a thing and didn't even know they had done it till later.
Swelling~ I was extremely swollen for 2 weeks after my dd (my 1st child) but I had lots of fluids. I had GBS and had the antibiotics for that plus tons of fluids from being in labor and then the fluids after my c-section.
This time it was scheduled and I did not have GBS so I didn't need quite as many fluids but still had a bit. I did swell this time but not nearly as bad as last time and it only lasted a week this time. I also drank TONS of water while in the hospital this time and peed A LOT and they said that helped flush the fluids which would help keep the swelling down some. Other things I was told help the swelling is walking and avoiding salt...things like that.
Good luck! I'm sure you will do just fine!
