Gabriel Is Home!
I'm glad to report my little guy is home and healthy!
On Wednesday night I called the hospital to see if I could come in and they told me 9 o'clock! I was so anxious to just hurry up and go get childbirth over with and meet my new son! Billy and Isaac saw me off and Billy went home to put Isaac to bed and then came back. They started me off on an eight of a tablet of Cytotec and by 3am I was about 80% effaced and ready for the Pitocin. I think I started off the whole induction with a pretty grim outlook, I was really looking forward to going into labor on my own. Anyways, 7am came along and I was only about 4-5 cm and determined to make it to at least 6-7cm before I got the epidural (I could already tell that I definitely wanted it) 10:30am and the doctor said he wanted to break my water, I said I wanted to get the epidural first because I knew after he broke my water the baby wouldn't take long from there. I recognized the epi guy and was trying to figure out where I knew him from, he also asked me if I had ever worked at the hospital before...weird. Lo and behold! He had given me my epidural with my first son! I thought that was pretty cool. When it finally kicked in I was on top of the world! I could still feel my contractions and move my legs pretty well, but I was in a lot less pain. At 11:15 the nurse (she was really awesome) checked me and I was only about 7 1/2 cm, but by 11:35 I could feel major transition contractions and was shaking pretty badly, and just a few minutes later I felt like I needed to push. REALLY push. She checked me again and baby was still pretty high but I could tell he was coming soon. I gave it a practice push and she said to stop and let her get the doctor! He had crowned like it was nobody's business and I was trying so hard not to keep pushing when they were finally ready I gave it two pushes and he came flying out! I felt EVERYTHING!!! I could even feel my legs really well despite the epi. Before I started pushing everyone made guesses as to how much he'd weigh, DH said 8.3 and I said 8.6, he was 9.3!!!! No one could believe how big he was. He had no problems, but quite a bit of spit up due to not being able to be worked through the birth canal and have the amniotic fluid squeezed out. He also has a perfectly shaped head because he came out so fast, but his face is still pretty swollen because of it also. He's a very sweet little guy, has a bit of trouble nursing. My milk is taking FOREVER to come in so I've had to supplement a bit of formula here and there so he doesn't drop too much weight. I'm also pumping to try to speed things up, he's a bit of a weak sucker and has some problems getting the milk out, but I'm sure once it really comes in there won't be much of an issue. So that's our story!! We're home and doing good. Isaac is already very fond of his little brother and is fascinated by him nursing. I'll get up some pictures when I have more time, thanks for reading if you got this far!
