I a in BC, Canada and use a licensed daycare that provides food. It runs $1k per month full time or basically $50/day.

When they turn three, they go to the "other side", and I believe it is slightly less. I don't know what I will do with two but thankfully I get a year off when DS#2 is born to think about it.

lurking from DIS....

the daycare we use is $65 a week for dd. we moved to her for several reasons but one was because the previous sitter started at $85 and increased to $120 within 18 months of us starting for part time. in home daycares around here start at $120 for over 2 yo, and $135 for under 2. the daycare centers cost $325 for 1 infant and 1 over 2 yo with no discount. I haven't talked to my sitter yet about cost for an infant but she has assured me that she will take the infant when we are ready.

Infant care is about $275+ per week here in a licensed day care center with long, long waiting lists. I'm just starting to look into home based centers, and think they run anywhere from $100 to $200. The cost does go down a little after 6 months I think and then again around 2. Sometimes I wonder how we can afford for me to continue going to work between day care and gas prices!!

I don't know exactly, but whatever it is is crazy. Last I checked was 100 per week for a baby but that was 5 years ago. This is the reason that dh and I work opposite shifts.

Here in Iowa its crazy. I looked into this before my baby was born. If I put my kids in a regular daycare it would cost me 1100.00. That is 500 for my 3 year old and 600 for an infant.

I have been taking my son to a home daycare and she only charges 400 for my son. So with the new baby she is giving me a 150.00 discount so now with both kids I will pay 600.00.

Daycares are not cheap. If I could afford to stay home, I would.

I pay a lot, but I had a really bad scare with DD at an in home daycare, tried it again with a private nanny and it got worse!

First- It was a family friend who had actually watched a lot fo kids for my family and when I showed up early one day to pick up Cristina I saw through the screen door that she was giving her some kind of medication. I ran in thinking something was really wrong with her and she was giving my 3 month old children's ibuprofen!
I almost killed her, and apparently it wasn't the first time because the bottle was half way full!

Second- The nanny was taking her to a mother's morning out and then going to do errands! My sis came by to pick up Cristina and she coudln;t find the nany or get in touch with her. She had dropped her off with people I didn't know, and was working out and ggetting her hair doen.
I went to the mother's morning out and they wouldn't give me my child because they said they didn't know who I was!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was the mom!!!!!!! I jerked DD out of their hands and told them not to ever try and keep my child away from me then I fired the nanny right there in front of everyoone and said some words that were probably never said in that church before!

So- DD and DS will go to a daycare that is 2 minutes form my work, that has internet cameras set up so I can see their every move on my computer (even when DD goes outside), and they can not leave the building at all unless I get them. There is a room that I have to walk in first that is locked up with another door. You have to enter a coputer identification code for your child to get the doors to open, then that takes you in front of the 2 director's (2nd line of security). ANd then you are allowed to go back to their rooms.

With that being said we will be paying 1,100 to 1,250 a month for daycare. But I will not take chances ever again. My mom, MIL, DH, sis and I all watch DD all day long form our computers and I don't think we have ever felt such relief!

Brandie- there are crazy people out there- that is for sure... One of my good friends had a horrible situation with her son in a home day care- the woman actually put her baby in the hospital for shaken baby syndrome! And she trusted her FULLY- and she came highly reccommended!
That being said... I love the lady who watches Slayde- and Slayde loves her too. She has custody of her grand-daughter who seems to be the devils spawn- but other than that- it is a great place!
How cool is that- you can watch the daycare! I think that is awesome!!!

Right now I pay $215/week for each of my boys .The baby is at an in-home daycare, which runs lower than the average price, and my son is at a preschool, which is also slightly lower than average price. Some of the center based preschools are $1400/month or more for infants. BUT, next week our nanny is starting. I am going to pay her $450/week. She wanted between $12/15 an hour, whihc is just too much for me, but she agreed to my weekly rate. My son will still go to preschool 4 mornings a week so I have to pay that on top, but I think he really needs the structured environment this close to starting kindergarten. So my total cost will be about $600/week.
