Daycare Costs...
Just wondering what costs you are all looking at for daycare cost weekly for your new little ones. It is pretty steady $100 a week here per child. That is what I pay now for Slayde to go to a home daycare. She gives a whopping $5 discount weekly for the second child.
So- where do you live- and how much is daycare there? Any discounts given for multiple children?

**Lurking from DIA***
I live in British Columbia Canada and daycare here for ONE infant is a minimum of $750 (can range upwards) per month and that doesn't include diapers, food, etc. For two fulltime children I am looking at paying around $1500 per month.

Dang Amber! I would be BROKE!!
Erin- I don't live close enough to either base in our area to use the daycare facilites there. I wish I did! Although, if I can justify staying home after Griffin is born, we will probably be selling our house and moving on base- It would be SO much cheaper! I just am NOT looking foward to that!

Re: Daycare Costs...
Yikes, I wish I lived near you guys! Daycare here is outrageous.
Infant daycare in this area runs around $250-$300 per week. Since my DH is a full time student, we're going to be getting a discount to send her to a university-sponsored daycare, but without the discount that daycare is $320 a week (includes nothing, not even wipes).

Re: Daycare Costs...
wow! I guess I should be thankful for cheap daycare here! The $100 a week includes breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack! My DH is from Rochester NY- he said it was around $300 a week there too- craziness!!!

Re: Daycare Costs...
Honestly, daycare here is outrageous. When I was looking into it 5 years ago (I was planning on staying home, but interested nonetheless) it was $1800 per month - PER KID. And no sibling discounts. It made no sense for me to go back to work as a paralegal (especially now with 3!).

*lurking from DIO*
I pay $180 for DS who will be 5 this year so he is in the "cheapest" category aside from the school agers because they are just before and after school care. An infant is going to run upwards of $280/week which is why I will be staying him. DS is going to miss the cut off for starting K this year so we can NOT afford 2 kids in daycare.

infant daycare is 200+ per week. After age two, the price goes down to 135-150 per week.

Lurking from DIA....
The day care we selected is around $1050 a month for an infant (toddlers are $100 less and preschool is $200 less). I am not aware of sibling discounts but they might offer something. This seems to be about average for center based care in the Memphis area.

Re: Daycare Costs...
WOW at the daycare prices!! Leah, it seems like prices here are not so bad after reading those! 3 years ago (before ds started pre-K) I paid $80 a week for him to go to a home daycare. It was cheaper than the babies because he was up to 4 yrs old at the time. Pretty much the same as what you are being charged for one now.
Good luck with your decision. If you decide to stay home we can have playdates!

Re: Daycare Costs...
I was paying 90 a week here in Texas and its a great daycare also. She gives me like a 15-25 dollar discount for the second child. And its 50 a week per child after school pickup. Gosh some of those prises is way to HIGH!

Re: Daycare Costs...
Erica- I am SOOO leaning towards not working my regular full time job. I have a prospect to work from home editing pictures. I HATE to edit pictures- that to me is the worst part of photography- BUT I could do it from home and be with my boys- and make about $900 more a month than I would working full time and paying somebody else to raise my babies!! IF I stay home play dates would be super fun!!
Another friend of mine does that regularly with a bunch of girls- we could always hook up with them too!

Lurking from DIS-------
I will be paying $125 for an in-home daycare. Regular daycares run about $170. I am in Southwest Florida.

Re: Daycare Costs...
Me & DH work opposites (we are both RN's) and I only work 2 days a week while he works 3, so we dont have to put our kids in daycare (KNOCK ON WOOD). Its so expensive. Where I work they have an onsite daycare for employees of our hospital and its SO expensive. I think a drop in for a preschool aged child is $50 a day and an infant is way more than that. We cant afford daycare, so we have to work opposites. It would be like me working to put my kids in daycare, ugh

Re: Daycare Costs...
Im lurking from Due In December. I am on Long Island, in NY. The cheapest center you are going to find will run you about $50 per day, and that MIGHT include lunch. So if you needed 5 days a week, you are looking at $1000 a month. Most of them will give you a weekly discount, so instead of it being $250 a week, you might get it for $225, if you pay CASH. I used day care with DD, but only needed 2 days a week. Now with this little one, I have my own business and will bring the bean to work with me.
