Icon5 Preparing for Induction

Its suddenly hitting me that I have my induction this Sunday....that means I have 2 days left to prepare. We have been "prepared" for weeks, but for some reason this feels different. I am just not sure what to do when I know I'm having a baby in a few days....and what do I do the night before? It is weird to know the baby is coming on a certain day, it seems so, like, I don't know, definite! Will I sleep at all the night before? Should I take a sleeping pill? Do I wear something special that morning? Right now on my list of things to do is to get all the laundry done, get out towels and linens for my parents (who will be staying here watching the kids while we are in the hospital), go to the grocery store, clean the house, re-pack my bag, that's about it. I don't know what to do that morning - what do you do on the day your life is going to change forever??? Have a special latte at Starbucks?? I'm so at a loss.

Monica, I was the same way when they told me that they were going to induce me with Kate. I ran the errands I had left, packed my bag (with stuff for DH), and went to lunch with my parents. I didn't have days to prepare: they told me in the morning to go in that night. I also ate pizza for dinner because it's my favorite thing to eat.

I would call your Ob and ask about a sleeping pill. I've heard of people taking one when they know they are going to be induced ahead of time but I think it was something their OB recommended or prescribed. I imagine it would be hard to sleep the night before. Hopefully everyone in your house will be feeling better by Sunday!

I was also the same way. Try to relax as much as possible the night before, and GET SOME SLEEP!!! The morning of dh and i went to the hospital, the put in the cervidel, monitered me, and baby, for an hour the told me i could leave, and to come back when i was having relugar contractions. So dh and i went out for breakfast (enjoyed our very last meal, without any kids) and visited my mom and dh's mom, By then it was 10ish, and was contrating regularly. All in all is was a great start to the day. By 10.40pm ds was born. Honeslty i loved being induced (execept for going 9 days"overdue")
I hope it goes great for you too!

Good luck. Hope you can get some rest and sleep. Take a deep breath here and there too. Don't worry, Youll do fine. What you will do, think, and happen, will come naturally. You never know, you may not be as nervous as you think you might be.
