Icon5 PISA Users - question

I'm planning to buy a Medela Pump In Style Advanced and wanted to see if you have to use both sides at the same time? I'm not very coordinated and don't like to pump both breasts at once. I prefer to have the option of one at a time. So if anyone already has experience with this breastpump and could fill me in on that I would appreciate it. I'm planning to purchase one in the next day or two. Thanks in advance!

Luriing from DIO...I used a single pump when I had my daughter and then bought a double pump when I had my son. Although I didn't pump nearly as much with my son as I did with my daughter I did find it much much more effective when using the double pump and cut my pumping time in half. It was easiest for me to sit and have a table/tray in front of me to prop the pumps on. Getting to your question, I don't think that you have to use both at the same time. HTH!

I have the older PIS model and I love it! You do have the option to do 2 or you can put the tube up to one and on the other one there is a little plug if you just want to do one breast. I only did one at a time due to the coordination issue.

You can do one at a time (there is a little attached plug in thingy to block the second side) but I use a hands free pumping bra that you attach the pump parts through so you do not have to hold onto it and can use the computer etc. without worrying about spilling.

Hi. I don't post much, just read, but I just got mine and you do have the option of single pumping with it. Also, I ordered mine from this site and got it for 224.00 (2008 PISA Backpack) Free shipping and no tax. They don't publish their prices online, so you need to order it by phone, but I got mine in 5 days via UPS. I highly recommend them.

I got the Metro bag PISA and I tried it on one boob. It worked!

I have an older style double Medela (from way back in 2003 - haha) and have always just done one side at a time. A few times I'd nurse on one while pumping on the other, but it does take coordination and really wasn't ideal for me. Maybe if I grew a couple more arms or something...? I don't know if the new PISA is a different set-up, but I would assume you have the option to do one or both at the same time.

Shannon, I ordered mine several months ago and got mine brand new (still sealed in the box) for under $200 on eBay. I did open the box to make sure everything was there and working, etc., and it is definitely brand new and perfect. You might want to check eBay too. You might get lucky like I did.

Thanks! I'm an ebay addict and I have been watching closely for a great deal there. I can't believe how many people are selling them there, where the hospital "gave" them to them during their stay! I couldn't get that lucky. LOL

Yup, like everyone already said, you can definitely do one side at a time. I pumped for months at work with Dylan (using the PISA), and I did notice that the suction could be a bit better if you're doing both sides rather than one at a time. But one side at a time worked, too.

there is a little piece that has a tiny cone (attached to the front plate of the machine) and you can move it from side to side - once you buy yours you can take a look and you'll understand. If you cover up one of the sides you can pump on a single side. You can also probably download instructions from the medela website or call their support people for assistance - or else if you buy a new pump the instructions will be in there. Another option is to just take it with you to the hospital and get the lactation consultant to teach you how to use it properly.

I had to start pumping when my milk came in with Ava because she just would NOT latch properly. She didn't figure out how until she was 8 weeks old and I pumped exclusively until then. I was so thankful that I had a wonderful LC who showed me how to use the pump to mimic a baby sucking and from the very first time I was able to pump more milk than she would even drink!
