OT - My poor doggie
Sorry I've been MIA lately. My dog has been sick off and on (mostly on) for about 6 months. He's been sneezing and reverse sneezing like crazy and is constantly stuffy. Well, after countless, different types of meds and thousands of dollars later, they think he might have cancer in his nasal passages/sinuses. This cancer is very rare, only 1-2% of all canine cancers are nasal cancer and it is not curable. All we could do is some treatments to prolong his life as much as possibe and keep him comfortable. He has already had one biopsy 2 weeks ago which came back negative for cancer, but positive for 2 different types of bacteria, although the doctor says she is still not convinced that he doesn't have cancer. She said there is a lot of damage in his nasal passages and a lot of the bone has been literally eaten away. She said you normally don't see that kind of damage from bacteria, (although it is not impossible and gives us a small glimmer of hope) it is usually from something more serious like cancer. We are taking him to have another biopsy this week and the doc will be using a CT scan this time as a guide to make sure she gets samples from the most damaged areas. We need to know for sure so we can treat it appropriately.
DH and I are so sad. Our dog just turned 6 years old last week and we've had him since he was 9 weeks old. He is our baby and we never thought we could possibly lose him at such a young age. We are just hoping and praying that this biopsy comes up negative as well!
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Re: OT - My poor doggie
Awww I hope it isn't the cancer. My cat died a few years ago from cancer in the nasal passages. He was sneezing blood and we finally did the tests through a specialized cat vet who determined it was the cancer He was only 11...which is not long enough! Most of our cats live to be 16 or 17 or sometimes older. Prayers for you- I know it is very hard to go through this.

The day you deliver, outside will be warm. Your baby will arrive in the evening. After a labor lasting approximately 5 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 8 pounds, 15 ounces, and will be 17-1/2 inches long. This child will have blue eyes and dark hair.

Re: OT - My poor doggie
So sorry that the dog isn't doing well. I hope you get some answers from the next biopsy. I know you were counting on your current "baby" being there to welcome the new baby in June. We lost our dog, a yorkie named Fergie, just after Ava turned 1, and it was so sad. She was 10 and I really enjoyed watching Fergie mother Ava. She would stand guard over her when she napped or lay beside her, if she was on the big bed napping. They didn't get to do the run and play thing though because Ava was just starting to walk good when Fergie passed.
Hope you find that it's something that can be treated and the dog pulls through.

Hope its not cancer and its something that is treatable/curable. Positive thoughts.
Loosing a pet is like loosing a family member.

Re: OT - My poor doggie
I second what you all said! It's so hard to lose a pet- they are part of the family. I dread losing our dog- she is 12, and she is a German Shepard/Siberian Husky, who has JUST begun to calm down! LOL You can tell her back legs are starting to hurt. She was always a very hyper and jumpy dog...even though we tried to train her. The one thing I WON"T miss is her incessant barking, and having diarrhea accidents! LOL My dh will really miss her, as she is really HIS dog. The cats are "mine". LOL I like dogs but I am more partial to cats. But we have had our dog almost as long as we have been married! So she really is part of the family.
My cat Chloe is going to be 18 in August- I have had her since 1990! I saw her be born and she is my "first baby". LOL So even though she is at my mom and dad's, I will be really sad when it's her time. But she has had a fantastic life. My parents take really good care of their animals.
And again, I hope they find it isn't cancer and it can be treated. Poor all of you!

Re: OT - My poor doggie
Thank you so much for the replies, everyone. They really mean alot! Tomorrow I will take him in to get the biopsy done and we will probably know the results either Monday or Tuesday next week. The biggest part that stinks right now, is that after the biopsy, he will have extra mucus which will cause excessive sneezing and bleeding for 7-10 days. He just got over all of that from the last biopsy and now I have to do it all over again. Every time he sneezes I have to see where he's at and check the carpet for bloody snot so I can clean it right away. Eeewww!
It is very hard to lose a pet! DH and I already decided that we will never get a dog again, whether our dog is cancer free or not. We just can't take the heartache.

Re: OT - My poor doggie
I hope your doggie does not have cancer.
My cat has been sick a lot since we got her and i get scared each time that we wouldnt be able to cure her.
I have never lost a pet because this is my first pet so it scares me each time she gets sick.
I hope he is ok
