Default Oh Yuck...Looks Like I'm Dealing w/SPD

Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction (SPD)
Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD)
Pregnant with Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction (SPD) - Associated Content

It certainly explains all of the groin pain I've been having for the past several weeks now...sometimes it gets really bad! It was so awful last night in bed that I was completely in tears. I'd like to keep some muscle tone and have felt good overall continuing w/modified work-outs this time, so this is discouraging for me. I guess on the really bad days, I'll just have to take it easier. Laundry (up and down the stairs) and housework still has to be done though. That can't stop with four kiddos. I did have it near the end of my last pregnancy. I thought it was just from the pressure of her head and because I was carrying so low, but now I know it has a name...and can (has, in my case) start much earlier.

I'm trying to take it a day at a time, but I admit that the thought of three+ more months of it and the possibility of having more frequent, very painful bouts kind of freaks me out. Anyone else dealing with this? I don't have a history of bad back probs and my biggest baby was 8lbs even - so 'huge' babies aren't the culprit. This is, however, my third pregnancy in a row in which I've carried very low so I'm probably out-of-whack down there.

Owie! Not fun. Keep taking it easy (easier said than done with kids). Will a Mat belly belt work?

For me, its my hips and scatica.

Hmmm, based on the links, it's possible I have it to some degree too! I know I'm having a difficult time walking and getting around lately due to hip, pelvic, and groin pain so it's possible. I sure didn't have this issue with Kylie. I just assumed it was because I am carrying a boy this time and he's so low. I guess either scenario is possible but I may have to bring it up with my dr. at my next appt.

ETA: Oh, yeah, forgot about the sciatica! I have been having issues with that for about a week now too.

I had that with both my other pregnancies starting at 13 weeks!!!! Its so brutal and I don't know how I have managed to avoid it so far with this one (but man am I thankful!). There was one thing that helped me, laugh if you will, but I used to put an ice pack down there in the evenings. Weird but I was so desperate cause as you know its painful to do anything from rolling over in bed to getting out of the car to just living life!!!

Yes and mine has started really early, like around 14 weeks.

FYI my doctor/nurse suggested swimming and a maternity belt on top of the obvious like a body pillow for sleeping. Unfortunately not a lot can be done. I really need to start swimming I had high hopes of starting am onth back

Feeling your pain!!!!!!

As much as I'm sorry that others have it, too, it honestly is a little relieving to know that I'm not the only one with it much earlier in my pregnancy than the end. Yesterday and today haven't been quite as severe either, so that's good.

My DH saw me wincing in pain as I slipped on some shorts this morning (stepping in one foot at a time as normal) and said I should just put them on the floor, step in, and pull them up. I guess that's logical...hehe. It's hard to break habits though. Rolling over in and getting out of bed is the absolute worst for me. I have a body pillow as well as a microbead pillow that is between my legs when I sleep...it helps to some extent.

There was one thing that helped me, laugh if you will, but I used to put an ice pack down there in the evenings.
You wouldn't catch me laughing! Knowing the pain, I'll try just about anything when it is really bad. Another pregnant mom suggested making a rice sock, heating it in the microwave, and doing the same thing. She said it has really helped her. I will be trying that. I also do wear a maternity belt around the house. (To hopefully help with my abdominal diastasis, but I think it might take the edge off of SPD a little as well.)

Yes you will have to take it a little easier. Do you ever read the Family Fun magazine? Inside it was about getting kids to help out more, and since Spencer, Austin and Kiley could even help you with minor stuff you could try it.
It was stuff like how to turn simple chores into a game. Putting names of simple chores on a Popsicle stick and letting the kids pull out their big surprise job of the day, or making a chart and getting stickers to fill it in. My cousin uses the Popsicle sticks one and her kids love it.
Maybe they could help out a little more so there mama could get a little rest. You are the Queen of the house hun!
I feel for you... sorry! Let us know how it goes.

Oh ya, the rice socks are awesome too! I alternated that with the ice packs. I also use my rice socks religiously when nursing. A few minutes of that heat before feeding really gets the milk flowing, especially during engorgement

I feel for you, mine started at 13w this pregnancy, I had it with Magi and Xander too but each time it just comes on earlier and much worse! Most days I can't walk too well and some days I can't walk at all, Yesterday was a rough day for me, we had to go to my in-laws and getting in the van was a joke then trying to go up their stairs just to get in the house was even worse!
I take a hot bath each night and try to stretch my pelvis and sometimes I can get the bones to pop back to where it doesn't hurt as bad. I am at the worse I have ever been now and don't know how I will get through the next 3 months, Dh says I walk like a bow-legged penguin LOL it's really bad!!!

Thanks, everyone.

My kiddos are required to help out around the house and the oldest two have had regular "jobs" for years now. Kiley loves helping fold and put away laundry; she's even teaching Ellie how to fold washcloths now...haha...very cute. The boys have to do their jobs because it's part of being a family unit. Kiley is starting to get incorporated in more and more and is my little sidekick. She's usually happy to help unless it involves cleaning her room or the playroom. They'd all rather have their teeth pulled than do that. The playroom downstairs (the boys' bedroom is down there, too, but they prefer to sleep upstairs in the extra beds and just keep their stuff down there/play down there now) is a gigantic mess right now because my DH and I are slowly sorting through boxes and purging 'junk' from the adjoining laundry/storage room. It has, shall we say, been an extremely s-l-o-w moving task. If so much hauling and moving wasn't involved, I'd just get it all done myself. Plus, the kids have taken the scattering of boxes and such as a 'free pass' to add to the mess despite their mama's insistence that it's just not so. I had them "cleaning up" down there most of last week...ha...and it still looks horrible! Other than going down to do laundry or sorting, I've been staying off the stairs so can't stay on top of things down there as usual...let alone haul the vac and cleaning supplies up and down. My DH knows he's really irritating me on this one. He's promised to help, but he's a great procrastinator. I'm guilty of that at times, too...but being pregnant and feeling "nesty"...plus the pain that comes...is making me a wee bit crazy sometimes. hehe

Sorry about your pain. I don't usually get that pubic pain until much later. This baby seems higher and I am sticking out in front more...although with Aidan and Breylan I looked like I was carrying a basketball LOL This baby looks that way too! I think it starts when the baby drops a little...closer to the last month. Sorry it is happening early for you and the others! I bet the ice and heat packs would help alot- get the blood flowing a little.
