Icon13 In Need of Sweet Relief!

Sorry if tmi, but I am absolutely dying with all of this horrid constipation. I even asked my DH to massage "it" out of me this morning (joking of course)...but he declined. haha Seriously, though, I've even been eating baby food prunes all week! I've been eating high fiber cereal almost daily all month...and as much fruit as I can muster (not a big fruit eater)...plus drinking a lot of water and some apple cider (which usually does the trick). Unfortunately, diet doesn't work as I'm genetically-prone to this (as are two of my kids who eat pretty darn great diets). I have problems with IBS, but UGH, I haven't been this bad since pregnant with my third. I've had two glasses of nasty Metamucil since 1am (when my sweet DH stopped on his way home from working OT to get it for me) and I continue to work-out everyday in hopes that "things" will get moving. I take two Colace every night at bedtime, too. Nothing at all is working!

Just had to vent!! Thanks for listening. I don't know if I've ever wanted to have a 10lb poo more in my life...gross, but what sweet relief it would be!

I am so sorry you are going through this! I remember back in the summer that I had a bout of constipation like that- it's not very fun =( Hope you find some relief soon!

Maybe there is something more your Dr. can do for you? I cant imagine them letting you go this far and getting this bad!

I have the same problem - I'm a once a week-er even when I'm not pregnant. Fiber One cereal has 14 grams of fiber in 1/2 cup. Mix 1/2 cup of that with a serving of Raisin Bran cereal (8 grams) for breakfast and you are getting 22 grams in one sitting! There are also some yummy Fiber One granola/chocolate bars that have 10 grams of fiber in them. Have one for a snack daily in addition to the cereal. Drink probiotic drinks, lots of water and take the colace on top of that (and even the metamucil if you'd like) and you should get cleared up within a couple of days. When I am religious about this I get on a daily routine - the second I stop....well, I stop LOL. Try it - it will work, I promise.

Sorry this ios gross and wat too much tmi but i got impacted while pg with Isabella and had to go have the nurse physically remove it for me and they taught me how to do it myself. I am constipated this time too, but have not gotten impacted this time around and i sure hope I don't either. I really feel for you and I hope you get some 10lb. relief soon. It is a daily battle around here for me

Um, ya...not fun. I can tell you how to "remove it" (my mom is a nurse and she told me when i was pg with Katie). FOR SURE tmi so message me...lol!
Can't believe colice isn't working. Certainly has made a HUGE difference for me this time. Are you taking it with lots of water? Every day religiously?
Do you have a place that sells that Wheat Grass juice? They take grass and squeeze the juice and you shoot it like a shooter at the bar Does the trick for me when I'm desperate. Tastes horrendous though!

You can easily cure constipation with a magnesium supplement you can get at any drugstore and most supermarkets. Doesn't matter which brand.
My Dr has me on 400 mg a day but you can take a bit more if needed~just keep upping the dose (within reason) until you get the desired effect. Then keep taking it daily and you won't have the problem again.
Trust me, I know how awful it is!

Well, the addition of Metamucil finally produced some "results" for me over the weekend (and I did lose weight - hahahaha). I see my OB tomorrow...and MW Fri, so I'll be definitely be emphasizing the issue. I usually do mention it to the doc, but I get the generic answers that don't help me (personally) much. I'd take my son's Miralax, but I really can't chance having days of the runs right now (running the kids all over the place with a toddler in tow). That stuff can be very hard to adjust dosages on...I know all too well as he's used it for many years (back when it was still rx)...and had lots of diarrhea, poor kid.

Taking notes on some of your other ideas....thanks!

P.S. - I'm such a wimp about even the idea of an enema...even in desperation, I don't think I could do it.

I was going to suggest coffee too.

Please try eating fresh watermelon and see how that helps. Papaya and coconut milk helps too. But I would def try the watermelon before you go nuts.

I was going to say Kashi cereal has alot of fiber- I think the crunch is really good too.

I hope something helps- good to hear you had some relief over the weekend.

Yeah- I drink coffee every day and I haven't seemed to have the poo problem.

I had it after I had the first baby though because I guess I wasn't drinking quite enough water- I was also nursing. I learned the hard way! I thought I was going to die!

OUCH being impacted sounds very painful!!!

The day you deliver, outside will be warm. Your baby will arrive in the evening. After a labor lasting approximately 5 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 8 pounds, 15 ounces, and will be 17-1/2 inches long. This child will have blue eyes and dark hair.

I forgot to mention that I'm not a coffee drinker...maybe I oughta "grow-up" (my bro and I always joke about it as he's never liked it either) and learn if it's that effective! Watermelon sounds pretty yummy right now, too. As for the Kashi...I've been eating it almost everyday for the past month...not helping. (Or barely...lol)

I was going to say coffee too. Actually, I prefer lattes (aka flavored milk.) After one of my surgeries and couldn't go for the life of me and I'm a pretty regular person. Whatever the doc gave me didn't help either. So my girlfriend and I went to the closest Starbucks and *wa-la*, lol.

I'm also a big fan of Fiber One cereal. Not so much because of being backed up, but the fact that I can get 51% of my daily fiber in one serving is pretty cool to me. Plus it doesn't taste horrid like most fiber enriched cereals do.

I'm glad to hear that you got some "relief" this weekend. Hopefully your doc can get you on somethine that'll keep you going more regularly.

I'm glad you finally got some relief. I hope you find a way to control it, that works for you. Maybe your Doc or MW will be able to help you some.

That's too bad you don't like coffee. I was going to suggest coffee as well. I drink a cup every morning and I haven't had too bad of a problem.

Did you try the watermelon yet? I thought I might try to find some evidence for you online as proof that it works. I came across this diary on SheKnows and it is *really* TMI, but gets my point across.

I wouldn't recommend eating 1/2 a watermelon though. I'd say a bowl should be enough.
