This is a discussion on My OBGYN apt sucked within the Due in June - Shaping Little Sunbeams forums, part of the Due Dates By Month category; So as I mentioned in a different post, at my last check up my OBGYN and I had discussed the ...
So as I mentioned in a different post, at my last check up my OBGYN and I had discussed the 12th or 13th for possible C-sec dates. For 2 weeks I've had those dates in my mind and was very excited to get this big ole baby OUT! Well...I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. She got her OR schedule and doesn't have an OR slot during those days. The ONLY days are now the 19th or 20th!!!!!!!!! I'm DUE the 24th!!! Only 4 days early? What is the benefit of having a planned C if you only deliver a lousy 4 days early....not to mention that I was 2 days early with katie so really, isn't that kinda pushing it anyways? I can't tell you irritated this makes me.
So she might (stress, might) be able to add me on another OR day but only if the other OBGYN has a slot...not very likely.
Adding to this is that my DH took holidays from the 16th to the end of June as we thought we'd deliver at least a week early. Now he'll only be home for 3 days and then have to go back to work. What a waste of time off! He can't move the holidays because he had to beg, borrow and steal to even get June time off...never mind July.
AND...my in-laws have made plans to come the last week of June. So now I'll be discharged to a house full of company (6 people in total are coming) and we DON'T have a guest room. They want to sleep on a blow up bed and the couches. Are you kidding me? Hotel anyone? DH won't say anything b/c we haven't seen them in a year (they are a 10 hour drive but don't get me started on that) and he doesn't want to rock the boat. So I'll be bleeding, sore, tired, trying to BF, leaking b's, new baby...and have a house full of people. eeeeeeeeeeeeeer
Anyways, my OBGYN says to expect a 9lbs+ size baby as I'm really big (again). Maybe she will take pity on me and squeeze me in sooner. In a few weeks I'll be begging her to take this baby out early.
I'm sorry you didn't get one of the dates you wanted. Hopefully you'll be able to get squeezed in somewhere. That would stink to have all that company while you're trying to recover from a c-section and not even have your DH around to help. I hope it all works out for you.
Sorry that things did not go better with your apt. and the dates they had available. At this point if someone told me I would have to go a week later than my due date I would freak out, which is basically what they did. Dangled a c-section carrot of a date in front of you and then took it away. I am so sorry. Maybe your body will move things along, and then they will have to make room for you the week before. I can totally understand your need to vent!
Hoping something gets canceled and there will be room for you (and no one needs it for an emergency).
For your sake and sanity I hope the visitors will have brains to think to go to a hotel. Id be kicking out people and I don't give a crap if they even drove 24 hours. Just giving birth and recovering, one needs quiet times to relax, adjust, and enjoy the new one. Help is good but not a house full and a house full comes the on-stop noise. Not good.

That stinks! Just curious- why do you have to do a c-section? What happens if you go into labor? LOL Will they say- oh the dr isn't scheduled for OR we can't deliver you? Sheesh! Or will they just call her and you have the baby? Normal or c-section- whatever.
I never understood why the scheduled c-secs always are like 3 weeks early anyway.

The day you deliver, outside will be warm. Your baby will arrive in the evening. After a labor lasting approximately 5 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 8 pounds, 15 ounces, and will be 17-1/2 inches long. This child will have blue eyes and dark hair.
I guess they do the planned C far enough in advance so that you don't go into labour. (which is why it's strange that they are letting me go so close to my due date). My labour with Katie didn't progress past 3 cm but since my water had broke it became more of a time issue. I decided, ironically, to go with the planned C because I knew DH wouldn't be able to have time off in July if I went overdue waiting for a VBAC. Ummm, ya. eeeeer!!!
I'm feeling better about it now that it's been a few days. I'm just going to BEG and PLEAD to have the baby once I get closed to the 38 week mark...I have a plan to be annoying! lol!
That sucks! ...Just remember...the wheel that squeeks the loudest I would make it a point to ask why she can't fit you in! And explain the reasons why...would they be more accomadating then?
And, Francine, the reason they do c-sections so early is b/c they don't want you to go into labor on your own..it takes more out of your body (and harder on your uterus) when you're just going to have a section anyway.

I see. For some reason I thought she was one of the people trying a VBAC! It makes sense, BUT, not all labors are the same. Just because someone doesn't progress the first time doesn't mean they won't next time. Just my non-medical observation I would think- and again just my opinion- that it would be harder on your uterus and body, to go through surgery, than something it is naturally made to do like have a baby. KWIM? Nothing against anyone- it is just me not understanding the medical need to push surgery. The c-section rate is so much higher in the US than anywhere else.
But I can see where you would be frustrated when they told you one thing and then you have to wait. Hopefully she can get you earlier or something.
Oh- I learned the "window" for letting you labor after your water breaks is different in different areas. In ours I guess it is 24 hours. In the same state just a few hours away, it is 36-48! BUT, sometimes Drs will push the section when THEY have things to do- like you should be on their time clock...and it isn't dangerous to the baby, they just want to get to wherever they need to be. Sometimes babies just take a little longer. (Obviously not talking about the times when the baby is in distress or whatever...that is totally different).
An emergency is an emergency. I guess they think the "risk of infection" is higher- but that is if you get too many unnecessary vag exams after your water breaks.
Again, sorry about the hijack!

First of all, I have no idea how you are able to even think of coping with ILs staying at your home so soon after you deliver. Thanks but no thanks! I would tell them they need to stay in a hotel. Much more convenient for them as well since you will be up and about all night long and so sore. I laid on the couch for 2 weeks after my c/s.
Second, so sorry you aren't getting the date you wanted. I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can get in earlier or maybe one of the other scheduled c/s goes into labor on her own and early so you can have that slot. This way it would all work out in all aspects.
