mei tai, slings, carriers?
I have read a few threads of people talking about looking at carriers/slings to buy. Just wanted to see if anyone got one, and what they think. Especially the one's people were looking at on ebay. I keep looking at the mei tai's. I have a client who still uses her's with her two year old. But the slings look more safe for newborns? Then of course there are the baby bjorn type. So many options, no idea which way to go???

Re: mei tai, slings, carriers?
*Lurking from Due in May* I got an ergo baby carrier. Obviously I have not used it yet, but my DH did use it with out 5 month old niece and said it was VERY comfortable opposed to the Baby Bjorn, which my SIL has for her. It is supposed to be better for the baby too because they face you so not all the weight is on their crotch (which I guess is bad for their hips and spine?) I really like that you can wear it on your front, back, and hip. Here is the link: ERGObaby - baby carrier - back pack - sling. I have never used sling so I dont have input on that, but I am sure someone else can help you out. GL with choosing!

Re: mei tai, slings, carriers?
We have the Ergo carrier and I LOVE it! I hated the Baby Bjorn. Even though Kate was tiny (she was failure to thrive for 7 months) the Baby Bjorn killed my back. My ped said that they aren't good for a baby's back, hip, and spine development, but I would guess that if you aren't going to use it often then that's ok. In the Ergo, I don't feel like I am carrying a baby at all! Kate found it to be much more comfy too and I was able to carry her around for longer periods of time if I was out. I also have a sling that I used when Kate was a newborn that I liked.

Re: mei tai, slings, carriers?
We had a bjorn with Ava and her little legs turned purple - it was awful. I have a mei tei that I used with her when she was older and I loved it, I'll try to use it with this one. I also registered for a hot sling at Target but I'm not going to get it unless someone buys it for me :p

Re: mei tai, slings, carriers?
I got one of the Ruby Toots pouch slings that I had posted about from Ebay. This will be my first experience with any type of baby wearing carrier, but I think I will probably like the pouch sling for keeping baby close and not having her be a toddler target when I'm trying to do things around the house. It should also be less cumbersome than trying to get out the infant carseat at Walmart and other stores. The quality of this sling was excellent and the price was very reasonable compared to some - especially for it being my first time to try something. If I don't like it, it's only $25 rather than $40 or more.

Re: mei tai, slings, carriers?
I am getting together with a lady tomorrow to see and try different carriers. It was supposed to be a class, but I was the only one who called. I am glad that she is still willing to do it with only me. Hopefully I will get some good advice and know exactly what I want afterwards.

Re: mei tai, slings, carriers?
I got something called a poppy pouch. My mom got it for me in Florida.
It is just like a hotsling. I really wanted something to carry a newborn in.
And i wanted something ready to be slipped on at anytime especially while running errands.
I will be shopping with a 3 year old and a newborn and want to be able to slip baby in a sling and dont want to have to adjust it.
There is a website for baby wearing called thebabywearer.com but i want to warn you it can be very confusing at first.
