Default Lily Padz Users...

I was wondering how many pairs you needed and how long did you nurse for? I was looking into gettting a pair last time around and ended up not, but am thinking about it again. I can't remember how long I needed nursing pads last time around. I do remember at some point I evened out so to speak and didn't need any but I'm pretty sure it was longer then 2 months and according to their website they say they can last up to 2 months (altough some have used them longer). I think these would be great for this summer for swimming.

I nursed my son for 10 months but I can't remember how long I used them for, maybe 6 months. I only bought one pair and I washed them every night when I was in the shower. They truly are the greatest!

So do you have to do anything to them in between nursing? Like if you take them off to nurse can you put them right back on or do they need to be rinsed off to 'reactivate' the sticky?
Sorry for all the questions but it's nice to be able to ask a real person who has used them before. YKWIM

I wish I remembered....I don't think so because I know I wasn't always nursing like in a bathroom or somewhere with water, but I can't be positive I didn't. I hope someone else can answer that, I'm sorry!!

I dont know what they are. I am assuming they are washable pads, right?
Is that the only thing we can use if we plan on swimming this summer?
I plan on swimming a lot this summer and just want to know what to get.

I only had one pair - they stayed pretty sticky throughout the day. They only take a minute or so to dry anyway so if you wash them when you start nursing they are ready to go by the time you are done.

As much as I love them (and will use them again), I personally wouldn't recommend them for immediate use. They keep your nipple compressed and you don't leak at all. When you first begin nursing it is easy, easy to get engorged and I think leaking is a good thing early on. I began using the LilyPadz when I went back to work when my little girl was 4 months old. I'll get a pair right away this time for use when I'm out in public but I'll use something else at home for the first couple of months

These are definitely not for immediate use. You don't want to be doing ANYTHING that could compromise your supply in the first few weeks, including nipple compression!!
I bought some LilyPadz with my second. They don't have to be rinsed everytime, but you should rinse them if there is milk on them when you remove them. I usually wear nursing pads for about 6 mos during the day and longer (maybe 9 mos) at night. I didn't use the LilyPadz every day, but they really are the only pads you can use to swim with (because they are silicone; someone asked)... of course, if you are wet anyway, no one will notice wet spots on your bathing suit... but! if you have over supply issues like I tend to, people may notice the milk dripping through your suit!! ha! (true story; actually happened!)

Thanks everyone! Yeah not sure I was going to use them right away anyway, but was really thinking for swimming and maybe certain shirts that are more form fitting that show the other cotton/disposables. I had tried the Gerber washables with my first and didn't like them. I'll most likely use the Johnson and Johnson disposables (had them with both kids and really liked them) at home and for some/most outings. I know I didn't need pads the whole time with either of my kids, I just can't remember when I stopped needing them. My first I nursed for 10 1/2 months and my last I nursed a full year, but I want to say I only think I went through maybe two boxes of nursing pads so I don't think it was too long that I needed them.
We are going camping when baby will be about 6 weeks old (give or take a week depending on when s/he gets here) and I'm sure we'll be at the beach everyday, so I'm hoping I'll be regulated enough to use them for that trip.

Thank you Nikki! You just reminded me that I need to order a pair. I know that with Katherine I wore pads during the day for at least 7 months but not as long at night because she began sleeping through the night at 10 weeks and my nighttime supply got regulated pretty quickly after that.

Thanks for the tip to not use them at first. I tend to be a milk machine early on but my body regulates itself pretty quickly. Hopefully this time I will pump a bit more when the baby starts to nurse less (but longer) so I will have a good supply.
