Icon5 Labor and Delivery

So, does anyone know if they will be using medication during delivery for pain? I know how fast my labors go, and every time except for my last delivery (and that was at 8 cm... I think I only had it for the last 1-1.5 hr of labor) it was always too late by the time I wanted an epidural (which makes me feel good, because I guess I can make it almost all the way through before I need pain relief).

But this time, I will be asking for an epi. I want one early... maybe this time it will actually be useful for me. If my water hasnt broken on it's own, I want one before they break my water. Once they break my water, it hurts SO BAD for me and I usually go pretty quickly after that.

Reading everyone's birth story on other boards reminds me of the pain I am going to be going through... I dont want to feel that pain AGAIN!! Seriously, it feels like your insides are being turned inside out, and I'd rather jump out a window =) I seriously cant believe I am going to go through that again. Considering I could deliver in as little as 2 weeks... I am really starting to get anxiety over this. Thinking of it makes me want to throw up. You never forget what that pain feels like. And I want no part of it

I know, it goes along with the territory and it is so worth it in the end, but it still doesn't make it hurt any less!

not to mention I will most likely be induced, and for me induced labor contractions hurt so much more!! They are much more intense... I don't want it!!

Ok, Im done being a baby now =)

I wanted to try to go natural last time and ended up getting an epi after they broke my water. I went from being in NO pain whatsoever to feeling like someone was holding a torch to my lower abdomen. I'm actually on the fence this time around. Some of my round ligament pain has hurt with the same intensity that I remember my contractions feeling like and while it hurts like hellfire I think I may be able to make it through. I'm going to take a wait and see approach but will be keeping an epidural option open.

I already know I'll get an epidural this time...well, you know, as long as everything works out that way. I had one with Lina and would rather go that route again.

I am undecided and I am getting increasingly anxious feeling like I need a plan.

My labor with Emily was similar to what you described. Induced, intense contractions (I actually did throw up) and went too quickly for the epidural. Although, they did give me stadol earlier in the labor and I hated, hated, hated it!! I definitely know I will not have that again. I would pass out (literally - eyes rolled up in my head) between contractions, but be wide awake for the contractions. Who wants that?

However, it was so empowering to give birth (basically) naturaly that if I could go as quickly (less than 5 hours from when they started pitocin and she was born) as that again, I would do it all over again. But I don't want to plan for a quick delivery and then not have it go that way.

So, I don't know what the heck I want to do.

I know I don't count - since I have repeat c-sections; but I will be arguing for my epidural rather than a spinal - which is what my hospital routinely sets up for. We had this discussion for about 45 minutes with Ava's delivery, but I won out. The hospitals argument was that they were already set up for the spinal and my DH said, "Well get set up for the epidural because that is what she wants and that's what she gets!" I love it when I don't have to do anything but sit back and smile. I hate spinals because the one I've had left me numb for nearly 8 hours and I was totally freaking out. With my epidural, I was up walking within 2 hours and didn't have to stay flat on my back either. It was so wonderful. It's not fair to be paralyzed for hours and hours after having a baby.

I def want the epi once I'm in active labor. I don't want any part of the pain you BTDT mamas are talking about!

My OB will let me have the epi at ANY point from 0-9 cm.

When I tried to have DS vaginally last time, I was given an epidural which did nasty things to my body. My BP shot way way down and I think I kind of blacked out a little because I don't remember it very well but I do remember them telling me I HAD to lie on my side because that was the only way my BP would stabilize.

I had to have a spinal for my C section and it worked much better than the Ep. So, Spinal for my c section and baby will go to the NICU for the first 2 hours or so. DH kept visiting and let me know everything was okay. They didn't even try to give him a bottle or a paci in the NICU. They wanted to wait for me to get him first

I was so tired after my c section that I was okay with them not bringing him to me right away. I think it was only 2 hours. I don't remember too well.
