Default To gel or not to gel?

Well, my next MW appt is tomorrow morning at 9 am. They'll check to see if I've made any progress and then schedule 2 appts for me to go to L&D and get gels administered to "nudge" labor along.

At this point though I feel conflicted about the whole thing. Part of me just wants her out already and the other part of me doesn't want to force her birthday.

I'm overdue according to my LMP, but not according to the early ultrasound.

Anyone else gotten the gels? How did it go? Did you wish you would have waited it out?

depends what gel they are planning on using...do you know the name of it? I've had Cervedal (i know i've mentioned it here before) worked like a charm...3 hours later i was in full blown labour. Personally i loved it. I was already 9 days over due which may be why it worked so easily. Good luck with whatever decission you make!

If you think you'll regret it, I wouldn't do it. With this being my 3rd pregnancy I can tell you that right after they come, time flies and they grow up too fast. I don't necessarily have the "luxury" of going on my own unless I go into labor before my induction day because I'm diabetic. If you really don't want to force her birthday and you want it the day that she chose, then let nature do her job. It will be really quite a memory for you to think back on the days before her birthday and how labor started.

You can't make a baby come out. If they aren't ready, they won't come...well, unless you go drastic. My thought was "get it out" but if you feel hesitant than wait and see what happens in the next week. It isn't like this is your only chance to get things going, right?

Never had to deal with the gels or an induction but my sister did and it didn't work out for her, both times. But she had a looooong and hard induction labor (3 days). Her body wasn't ready at all but they needed to induce due to pre-e. 2 days of inducing, trying to bring on labor and the 3rd day was delivery. She barely made the cut off before a c/s would be called. But once they broke her water, things went fast. It was to get the start of labor going, that was hard.

If you are second guessing things, then you know your answer. Just follow your heart.

I would only consider it if you're actually overdue. And my overdue, I mean long past 42 weeks. Maybe at 43 when the "risks" actually start appearing (unlike at, say, 41-42 weeks, when most doctors tell you they do).

Otherwise I'd let God do His job.

That's a tough one. I probably would have with my first since I went overdue and was just so done by that point. I am not sure I would have this time but I didn't actually go past my due date so I am not sure how I would have felt had that been the case. Do whatever feels right to you and let us know what you decide.

Good luck, Zara! I can't wait to meet little KL, no matter what method you choose!

Have you had the appointment yet? I'm curious to hear what your MW advised.

Good luck with your decision!

I had my appt this morning. No change still! I had an NST and everything looks good. It picked up the inconsistent ctx I've been having.

The MW suggested we wait until next week to start gels. My next appt is July 1. UGH!!! I sincerely hope that I go before then.

They'll be using Prepadil (sp?) as a first resort then move on to Cervadil which is more aggressive if things don't get going.

Bummer. I hope you don't make July. Its good that it picked up the cxs. They are readable! Now they just have to get stronger, not necessarily consistant. Many people don't have consistant ones.

Awww, sorry, Zara! I can only imagine how frustrated and disappointed you are. Here's hoping you'll go before July!

Yep...exactly! My midwife said the same thing. However, mine don't stay strong enough to be productive...yet. Ho-hum... One of these days, eh?

Are you still dealing with your belly rash? Hoping you've gotten some relief from it.

My ctx are tolerable. I've only felt one for like 5 sec that was really sharp and like a cramp on crack. Otherwise they're just uncomfy.

I'm doing much better with the rash. Actually, it's gone! I got some oral and topical RX meds and they worked really well. Although, I also bought some oatmeal and almond soap which seemed to work almost instantly for the itch.

I'm sorry things are going slow for you. I know how you feel as it was the same for me. The gels didn't do anything for me, so I'm not much help there. Good luck with what you decide. My ctxs weren't consistant either. I really didn't even feel them most of the time. I guess that's why they weren't dilating me. I hope things start moving for you on your own so you don't go into July. I'm glad to hear your belly rash is gone! Yay!

I agree- if you aren't sure then don't...she WILL be born. I know you had early labor but don't worry! She will come! I think it is usually better if you let nature take its course. If the NST says she is ok- then I would wait it out. It is difficult but in the long run the body's natural labor is better than being induced. If there is a medical reason then you don't have much choice but when she is ready she will be born.

The day you deliver, outside will be warm. Your baby will arrive in the evening. After a labor lasting approximately 5 hours, your child, a girl, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 8 pounds, 15 ounces, and will be 17-1/2 inches long. This child will have blue eyes and dark hair.
